This event will be held at the Institute of Technology Campus (5685 Leeds Street, Halifax, NS) on Wednesday, September 28th at 6:00 p.m. Our NSCC Disability Services Team will be leading the session and will be answering questions about the transition from high school to college for learners with disabilities including those who are on an Individualized Program Plan. Some questions that will be explored are below; please bring along others you may have. How do I help someone with a disability apply to college? I have an IPP. Does that make a difference? What can I do now to get ready for college in the fall? What are some resources students find helpful at NSCC? Is there funding available for students with disabilities in post secondary? I know how to support my child in school - what's going to change now s/he is going to college? We appreciate any help that you can provide us in getting the word out to students and their parents. This particular session requires attendees to sign up ahead of time via email or phone. I will be accepting all of the registrations at ashley.delong@nscc.ca or 902-491-7576. The youth and staff at Laing House have developed this interactive presentation for students, teachers, and other professionals. Workshops are designed to increase knowledge and understanding around mental illness, available resources, and treatments. Its aim is to also reduce stigma and isolation and encourage youth to seek help. Youth from Laing House courageously speak of their own struggles and successes navigating through life with a mental illness. They are able to model recovery, inspire hope, and relate effectively with their peer group. This format is very powerful as students hear firsthand how mental illness affects people that look just like them."
