Call for Papers
The Civic Education Project (CEP) invites CEP to submit their paper proposals for a 7th
Baltic Student Conference entitled:
Continuity and Change in the Baltic sea region
7th CEP Baltic Student Conference
March 30 – April 1, 2001

Conference Outline
General Description. The BSC will begin on the evening of 30 March and will end in the
morning of 1 April. 31 March will be devoted to presentations of student papers. All costs
associated with the conference will be paid by the organizers.
Student papers will be grouped into panels. Each panel will have a chair and a discussant
chosen by the conference organizers from the group of lecturers, staff and guests attending the
conference. Following the paper presentations, the chairperson will open the floor to
discussion and questions.
In addition to their presentations, participants will be expected to attend other panels.
Participants. All students of CEP Fellows (both Visiting Lecturers and Eastern Scholars) and
of CEP alumni are eligible to submit applications for the BSC.
Participants will be chosen through a two-stage selection process involving a review by
advising CEP Fellows/alumni and finally the Conference Selection Committee.
Proposals. Proposals should be no more than one single-spaced page. A good proposal should
clearly summarize the paper’s theme, main research question and hypotheses, sources of
evidence, and possible conclusions.
Papers. Papers should be no more than fifteen double-spaced pages. Papers must be typed.
CEP Fellows/alumni should advise and work with participants on the preparation of their
papers. Papers (at least one hard copy) must be submitted upon arrival at the conference.
Students, whose conference papers will be selection for publication, will be asked to provide
an electronic copy of their paper to the conference secretariat.
Presentations. Each participant will be given approximately ten minutes to present his or her
paper. Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare a discussion of their paper and not to
simply read it to the panel and the audience. CEP Fellows/alumni should advise and work
with conference participants on their paper presentations.
