Call for Papers The Civic Education Project (CEP) invites CEP to submit their paper proposals for a 7th Baltic Student Conference entitled: Continuity and Change in the Baltic sea region 7th CEP Baltic Student Conference March 30 – April 1, 2001 Vilnius, Lithuania Conference Outline General Description. The BSC will begin on the evening of 30 March and will end in the morning of 1 April. 31 March will be devoted to presentations of student papers. All costs associated with the conference will be paid by the organizers. Student papers will be grouped into panels. Each panel will have a chair and a discussant chosen by the conference organizers from the group of lecturers, staff and guests attending the conference. Following the paper presentations, the chairperson will open the floor to discussion and questions. In addition to their presentations, participants will be expected to attend other panels. Participants. All students of CEP Fellows (both Visiting Lecturers and Eastern Scholars) and of CEP alumni are eligible to submit applications for the BSC. Participants will be chosen through a two-stage selection process involving a review by advising CEP Fellows/alumni and finally the Conference Selection Committee. Proposals. Proposals should be no more than one single-spaced page. A good proposal should clearly summarize the paper’s theme, main research question and hypotheses, sources of evidence, and possible conclusions. Papers. Papers should be no more than fifteen double-spaced pages. Papers must be typed. CEP Fellows/alumni should advise and work with participants on the preparation of their papers. Papers (at least one hard copy) must be submitted upon arrival at the conference. Students, whose conference papers will be selection for publication, will be asked to provide an electronic copy of their paper to the conference secretariat. Presentations. Each participant will be given approximately ten minutes to present his or her paper. Participants are strongly encouraged to prepare a discussion of their paper and not to simply read it to the panel and the audience. CEP Fellows/alumni should advise and work with conference participants on their paper presentations. Language. The language of the BSC conference will be English and all student participants are expected to have good command of this language. Application Process. CEP Fellows/alumni advising students who wish to apply must ensure that all applications are submitted by email or on computer disk to the conference secretariat. CEP Fellows are kindly asked to provide honest appraisals of the proposals and of the applicants. This form should be submitted to the in-country selection committee by email or on computer disk, together with the application form and the proposal.
