I. INTRODUCTION
a. Introduce yourself, explain where you work and what you do
b. Explain that you are a member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals
(AFP)
i. AFP is an association of professionals throughout the world that advances
philanthropy by enabling people and organizations to practice effective
and ethical fundraising
ii. 30,000 members in 206 chapters in U. S., Canada, Mexico and Asia
iii. Describe the local chapter and its programs
c. Talk about the Careers in Fundraising project
i. Talk about the local chapter’s efforts to introduce young people to
philanthropy and the career of fundraising
ii. Talk about the types of organizations that exist and the diversity of jobs in
fundraising and the not-for-profit sector
d. Share Ten Reasons to Consider a Career in Fundraising, the AFP Description
and Purpose, and the Donor Bill of Rights and AFP Code of Ethics and Standards
of Professional Practice
e. Ask if there would be an opportunity to address students about the career
opportunities in fundraising and make a brief presentation
i. Explain that you have a prepared presentation
ii. The presentation includes a student activity
f. Talk about the training available for fundraising and not-for-profit management
