Friends of UCD is a UK registered charity that aims to support the advancement
of teaching and research in UCD. All donations to UCD from UK residents should
be made to Friends of UCD to be eligible for tax relief under the UK Gift Aid
Scheme.
Under Gift Aid, if you make your donation to Friends of UCD, Friends of UCD will
in addition be able to recover the standard rate of tax at 22% on the gift. This
can be done whether donations are large, small, one-off or regular, provided the
donor gives a Gift Aid declaration which we will send you on receipt of your
donation.
For example, if a Donor makes a donation, under Gift Aid, for £500 at the basic
tax rate of 22%, Friends of UCD reclaims (£500/0.78) making a total gift of
£641.02. In effect this will increase your gift by 28% at no extra cost to you
Further, if you are a higher rate taxpayer, you yourself can reclaim the
difference between the higher rate of 40% and the basic rate of 22%. In the
example given, you yourself can claim ie you will be able to recover 18% of the
gross value of your donation.
