Being a member of ASB is an important position, you are required to work on school activities and organize community events. All ASB Members must attend Summer Registration, 1st day of school, Back to School night, Open House, Two Stussy Sales, Incoming Freshmen Tours, and the Homecoming Dance. Membership in ASB also means giving yourself and your time to ASB. Campaign material will be discussed and approved; failure to attend will be cause for disqualification. 4/21-4/25 Campaign Week! 4/28 MANDATORY Assembly Rehearsal in the Greek Theatre at 3:30pm 4/29 Elections Assembly, live speeches in Greek Theatre with voting to follow 4/30 Notifications by phone and/or email whether you are elected 2 Position Descriptions ASB President: The ASB President's duty is to oversee the class as well as lead the executive board. The President shall run/hold all Tuesday and Thursday meetings with professionalism and efficiency. The President should know everything that goes on in class, and should be able to report to staff and students what is going on at any given time. Aside from running the class, the President must be an active member in the class and have to be willing to take up any job that others don’t want to do. They are the head of fundraising for the school and come up with plans to help the school make money. The President is the face of ASB and Samohi, and should act like people are always watching. ASB Vice President: The Vice President’s most important job is to fill in for the President whenever necessary. He/ She is responsible for assisting the President when needed, and must carry out tasks delegated to them by the advisor and/ or the President. The Vice President must also oversee the class and make sure everyone is doing their job. Speaker of the House: The Speaker of the House is the voice of the Associated Student Body. It is their job to deliver news of all school wide events happening on campus through the announcements. During meetings it is the speaker of the house's job to lead the pledge and time other speakers. In the case that the ASB president and VP are in absence, the Speaker of the House will lead meetings. Secretary: The Secretary only has a few jobs, but those jobs are extremely important. The Secretary keeps record of all the affairs of ASB along with taking minutes during meetings. The Secretary is responsible for taking notes at every meeting including the unofficial ones. In the absence of the ASB President, VP, and Speaker of the House, the Secretary must hold and run meetings. Treasurer: The Treasurer is responsible for approving the school's purchase orders and fundraisers during the meeting. The treasurer should have good attendance and act as a liaison between ASB and the school's financial assistant. Commissioner of Elections: The Commissioner of Elections is responsible for running Homecoming Elections, ASB Elections, School Site Council Elections, Financial Oversight Committee Elections, and Senior Prom Elections. Before every election, the Commissioner of Elections must submit a list of rules and guidelines for the upcoming elections and hold a meeting to let the candidates know the rules and guidelines. 3 Student Member of the Board: The Student Member of the Board is responsible for attending all SMMUSD Board Meetings and giving clear and in-depth update for Santa Monica High School. The SMOTB must take notes on the meeting and give an informative update to ASB during the Tuesday meetings. Senior Class President: The Senior Class President promotes unity among the senior class, encourages school spirit. They must set an example for other grade reps. Plan fundraisers and events for the senior class. Maintain a close relationship with their senior advisors and administration. Senior Class Vice President: The Senior Class Vice President will assist the Senior Class President in all senior operations including, but not limited to, running Senior Steering meetings, class fundraising, the organization and execution of Prom, as well as being an exemplary ASB member in and out of the classroom. House Representatives (S,M,O,H,I): House Representatives collaborate with and communicate on a weekly basis with the House Principal and House Teacher Leader, invest in and building community and in strengthening academics in the House, collaborate and co-design at least one House team-building activity each semester, collaborate and co-design House Advisory Student Leadership group meetings, increase the participation of all students House students and staff in school-wide ASB sponsored activities, report House activities to the ASB at weekly meetings, collaborate with, participate in and support all ASB activities, like all other ASB members, must attend at least ten ASB sponsored activities per semester, and collaborate with other House Representatives to establish best practices for outreach to houses. Class Representatives (9,10,11): Class representatives are responsible for acting as co-presidents and overseeing their respective steering clubs, unifying their grade student body, and fundraising for their class. They will be expected to give grade reports during ASB meetings and work closely with their class advisor as well as the ASB advisor to coordinate events. Member-At-Large: A member-at-large in ASB is responsible for attending 20 ASB-sponsored events a year. Each member will be selected to be a Commissioner of a certain activity within ASB and must actively participate in the ASB class. 4 Eligibility To run for any position the student MUST have: A 2.5 cumulative GPA, no “F’s” and no more than one “D” last semester. A 3.25 for student member of the board. Attach a copy of transcript signed by a counselor. The approval of his/her parent/guardian. Be willing to change their schedule to take the ASB Leadership class. The ability to attend 20 school events per semester, including all ASB events. Nomination of a teacher/administrator to run for a position.
