Then this incentive might be for you. Fr. Roy and the Advisory Commission of Our Lady of Lourdes School are providing a one time Enrollment Incentive for Parish families who would like to enroll a child or children in our Parish School for Kindergarten through eighth grade. We are offering Parish children the chance to attend our school for a straight tuition of $1,000 per child for the 2010-2011 school year. This is a savings of $2,650.00. BUILDINGS AND MAINTENANCE The Parish Council and the Finance Committee have approved the cleaning of the rectory, the sealing of the Church to keep out bats, and the annual inspections and servicing of the central heating/AC units in the Church, rectory, and Parish Center. Funds received in the monthly maintenance collections are being used to pay for these services. The Church has some leaks which are being addressed through the Diocese as capital funds may have to be used to pay for these repairs. Portuguese Festa Mark your calendars – June 27th is the Annual Portuguese Festa in Princeton. Mass begins at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s. This affects the Mass schedule for Colusa. On Saturday, June 26th, the Vigil Mass (in English) will be held at the normal time, 5:00 p.m. On Sunday, June 27th, the only Mass to be celebrated in Colusa will be at 8:00 a.m. in Spanish. Year of the Priest Rome is planning a celebration as the Year of the Priest closes on June 19th. This does not mean that prayers for priest should draw to a close. The weight they carry as shepherds of souls requires constant spiritual support from all of us through intercessory prayer. As the Church continues to come under fire from the media, we must remain strong as Catholic Christians and pray that our priests will also have the strength to carry this burden along with all the others they carry. St. John Vianney The heart of St. John Vianney, who died 150 years ago, is incorrupt. The Diocese of Stockton will have St. John’s heart on display from July 11-15th. Anima Christi (Prayer written by St. Ignatius Loyola) Soul of Christ, sanctify me. Body of Christ, save me. Blood of Christ, inebriate me. Water from the side of Christ, wash me. Passion of Christ, strengthen me. O good Jesus, hear me. Within Thy wounds hide me. Suffer me not to be separated from Thee. From the malignant enemy, defend me. In the hour of my death, call me. And bid me come to Thee. That with Thy saints I may praise Thee, Forever and ever. Amen. St. John Vianney Part II St. John Vianney is the Patron Saint of Priests. In continuation of last week’s theme of Spiritual Communion, it was he who said, “A spiritual communion acts on the soul as blowing does on a cinder covered fire which was about to go out. Whenever you feel your love of God growing cold, quickly make a spiritual communion.” J.M.J. Diocesan Policy The Catholic Herald/El Heraldo June 5th issue contains Bishop Soto’s policy on stipends and offerings. In brief, “It is a fundamental tenet of Christian revelation that the grace of God is free. Salvation is pure gift, an act of extravagant generosity from God that no human being can ever hope to merit or pay back. Therefore, any practice that would imply that a Catholic must pay for the sacraments would be contrary to the Church’s understanding of God’s love for the sinner, especially the poor.” The article further clarifies, “Priests are allowed to accept monetary offerings from the people when celebrating a sacrament, but it must be clear that the offering is given freely and the donor may choose how much to give.” Additionally, the policy outlines, “… (‘a suggested donation’) for the use of Church facilities when baptisms, weddings, or funerals take place. Those donations are akin to an exchange of goods for services because the parishioner donates towards the financial support of the parish in exchange for use of the parish’s buildings, and many parishes depend on this income to pay for the upkeep of its buildings and other expenses.” Finally, the Bishop lists recommended amounts for various offerings and donations, “For Mass offerings, the suggested amount is $10… Funeral donations are set by the parish and average $150 throughout the diocese.” In conclusion he states, “Any donation received for baptisms, weddings, Quinceaneras or blessings of houses, automobiles, or any other building or blessing, go [to] the support of the parish. If a gift, over and above the parish offering, is made freely and spontaneously to the priest, he may keep it; however, priests are prohibited from soliciting, directly or indirectly, any offering on such occasions.” Jaime Soto, Bishop of Sacramento For full details on the policy, please consult The Catholic Herald/El Heraldo. A copy is available in the parish office if you do not have one.
