This project aim at improvement of water supply to the agricultural lands under the command of Eastern Sadiqia Canal to provide enhanced design will also help to mitigated seepage losses which will also ultimately help in reducing raised water logging and new proposed conveyances efficiency will improve crop yields and prevent water logging and salinity in the project area. Description and Justification of The Project is irrigated through Sulemanki Project (enclosed feasibility study Headworks of River Sutlej. The Sulemanki for project costing Rs. 300 million & headworks is the governing regulator for above) the irrigation system of this area i.e., District Bahawalnagar. It has a flood salacity of 3 lakh Cusecs with an afflux of 1 ft. The weir has 24 bays, 60 feet each with right 9 left under sluuces each 8 x 30 ft. 1926. Eastern Sadiqia Canal, the main canal, is a perennial Canal with an initial head discharge 4917 Cs. Its gross command area is 1239783 acres and Cultivable commanded Area (CCA) is about 1210156 acres. The primary object of this canal is to equitably distribute the irrigation supplies to the lands according to design requirements. There are two major and one minor system, off taking from Tail Eastern Sadiqia Canal (RD 245+000). These are Malik Branch, Hakra Branch and Sirajwah Canal. Malik Branch has 2 authorized Discharge 1866 Cs. Hakra Branch has authorized Discharge 2897 Cs and Sirajwah System with authorized Discharge 228 Cs. The Rehabilitation of Eastern Sadiqia Canal under Irrigation System Rehabilitation Project has been started since May 2004. The Project include rehabilitation of Earthwork by maintaining new hydraulic parameters. Where the canal is excessively wide, single layer pitching is to be constructed to maintain the regime of canal. Under this constructional project Bamboo Bushing, Road Barrier, RD Marks & Boundary pillars are also to be constructed. The L Section of Sadiqia Canal approved for the implementation of ISRP reveals its authorized discharge as 6820 cusecs where as with out project its old approved discharge is 6080 cusecs . Irrigation Channels in this part of the world are normally non rigid boundary channels. Further these channels are rich in transporting the sediment. A precise design is always required to achieve the maximum hydraulic efficiency and better command over the area to be irrigated. Various aspects like availability & scarcity of water resources, method of irrigation, sediment transportation and environmental impacts are considered while contacting a new system or Rehabilitation the old one. The common troubles which are experienced during operation are summarized as:i. A heavy embayment is always a threat to the canal safety down stream to the structures. ii. Heavy animal trespassing has disfigured the earthen banks. iii. Due to differed maintenance designed free board can seldom be found on the deferent reaches. iv. In the lower reaches section insufficient to pass the designed discharge. v. In the 80% reaches section insufficient to pass the designed discharge . vi. Silting and scouring of the channels at various reaches. 7. Capital Cost Estimate Rs. 257.149 Million 8. 9. 3 Annual Operating Cost.
