own Collagraph plates which will be printed using a table
press. A variety of different materials will be explored to
create surface marks, textures and a range of tones,
alongside collaging and cutting techniques. Complete
beginners and experienced students are welcome.
Course Outline: Day one: Intro to Collagraph, Tutor shows examples,
discusses types of compositions and drawings suitable for
making the Collagraph plates. Students using pencils and
paper go into Waterperry Gardens to create drawings for
their Collagraph plates. Back in the teaching room the
tutor demonstrates making techniques/discusses materials.
Students make their own Collagraph plate based on their
drawings. Following a demo, students seal their plates
ready for printing.
Day Two: The day will start with a demonstration of how
to ink up and print the Collagraphs and discuss the
techniques involved. Students will have the opportunity to
print several times from their Collagraphs. If time allows
the technique of ‘Chine Colle’ (different types of thin,
coloured papers are glued onto the inked plates to form
part of the final image) will also be demonstrated and
explored by students. All students will use the table press
for printing their Collagraph plates.
