Leadership Series

Description: This series includes monthly sessions presenting a variety of leadership tools, articles and topics for review/discussion. These topics may include risk management, governance and human resources. Each participant will also receive two one hour sessions per month to meet with one of the training facilitators. These one on one meetings are designed to support the participant in practicing the leadership tools within their own organization.

Professionalism through Mentorship

Description: Cambrian College, in partnership with the City of Sudbury, has developed the Sudbury RECE Professionalism

through Mentorship Project to support ongoing professional development and to recognize and acknowledge the RECE in your centre who has demonstrated the interest and capacity to be a Mentor. This person is often seen as the “go to” person and a peer motivator with enthusiasm for the field of ECE and the passion to motivate others. This project will help formalize what these individuals are doing. The opportunity to provide mentoring for new RECE’s while helping those who will be mentors enhances their own skills and knowledge in mentoring roles.

Healthy Kids Community Challenge

Healthy Weights- Capacity Building

Description: The Healthy Kids Community Challenge will be offering special training for all professionals who work with children 0-12. The goal of the training will be to be help sensitize those who work with children about how to promote healthy eating and physical activity without unintentionally contributing to weight bias and other negative unintended consequences (e.g., increases in food and weight preoccupation, disordered eating, and other unhealthy weight control behaviours)

Principles of Healthy Child Development

Description: This one-day training will help front-line leaders working with children aged 6 to 12 improve the quality of programs. It provides in depth training in the HIGH FIVE Principles of healthy child development so front-line leaders understand what they need to do to ensure each child’s social, emotional and cognitive needs are met. Leaders learn activities and gain knowledge, tips and resources to enhance their programs as well as their relationships with children and other staff members. Topics also include bullying, conflict resolution, physical literacy, children’s mental health and moderate to vigorous physical activity.

Quest 2

Description: This one-day training helps supervisors improve risk management in children’s programs by learning how to measure quality with the HIGH FIVE scientifically validated QUEST 2 Tool. Supervisors will use the QUEST 2 Tool and learn how to enter their data into the HIGH FIVE Database to track their organization’s progress as well as identify areas of need. They will also learn how to debrief the results of the assessments with staff in a positive way.
