These include works undertaken within lease, sublease and licensed areas. 3.0 COMPLIANCE Groundwater monitoring will be installed in accordance with relevant Australian/New Zealand Standards AS/NZS 5667.11:1998: Water Quality – Sampling – Guidance on Sampling Groundwater, and The Minimum Construction Requirements for Water Bores in Australia : Edition 2 Sept 2003 www.iah.org.au/pdfs/mcrwba.pdf Prior to any works occurring on BAC controlled land, appropriate documentation must be submitted and approved by appropriate authorities. 4.0 i. BAC to issue Airport Lessee Consent: All drawings, design certificates and application forms to be submitted to BAC. ii. Airport Building Controller (ABC) to issue Building Approval for works: All drawings, design certificates and ABC application forms to be submitted. iii. BAC to issue Permit to Commence Work: Contractor to obtain BAC Approved Contractor status; Contractor site employees to complete BAC online OH&S inductions; Contractor to submit appropriate safe work plan and construction environmental management plan for approval; BAC to issue Permit to Work. BOREHOLE & WELL LOCATIONS Prior to installation, ensure wells are at practical locations based on supplied ASCON plans which: a) Limit disturbance of existing flora and fauna; b) Take existing services locations into account; c) Should not be located in drainage channels, floodways or tidal areas unless specific design has allowed for flood impact to the site; d) A well, installed in a high traffic area should be constructed flush to grade with suitable protective casing to minimise possible damage. e) Well to be clearly marked as a monitoring well with appropriate installer and monitoring contractor details. 5.0 DRILLING METHODS Suitable drilling methods must be selected to reflect the purpose or objective of the monitoring well as detailed by a certifying engineer. Excess spoil is to be suitably disposed of or relocated as per approved plans. If the site contains potential contaminated spoil, treatment and relocation of spoil must be as per approved site specific CEMP. Locations of known contaminated land to be supplied by BAC representative to the Contractor. Brisbane Airport land is currently within the Department of Primary Industries Fire Ant Zone, therefore strict limitations and specific approvals must be adhered to. Brisbane Airport also lies within know PASS and ASS zones. 6.0 MONITORING WELL CONSTRUCTION/INSTALLATION The Monitoring Well is to be constructed strictly as per design engineer’s documentation. (Figure 1) details a typical monitoring well design. The installation and construction of boreholes and groundwater monitoring wells must be supervised on site by a certified and licensed contractor with a current BAC Permit to Commence Work. Groundwater monitoring well installation report (Form 1 or Form 2) for each installed well to be returned to BAC with suitably completed ASCON information at completion of works. BAC to inspect installed wells and issue Final Inspection Certificate. ABC to inspect installed wells and issue Certificate of Completion for Works. 7.0 MONITORING WELL DOCUMENTATION A written log is to be kept on results from each monitoring well. Any abnormal results are to be immediately reported to BAC’s Environment Section. 8.0 MONITORING WELL DECOMMISSIONING For monitoring wells that are to be decommissioned, the following process should be followed: If possible, remove complete monitoring well and backfill hole with approved compacted material; If complete removal is not possible, eliminate physical hazards on the surface and back fill hole with approved compacted material; Prevent contamination of site groundwater. Eliminate possible unintended use Procedure for Installation of Groundwater Monitoring Wells Page 4 of 7 Fig.1 Procedure for Installation of Groundwater Monitoring Wells Page 5 of 7 Form 1.
