Mutual Recognition Agreement between the Institution of Structural Engineers and Engineers Australia Further to recent discussions, the Institution of Structural Engineers and Engineers Australia have welcomed the opportunity to review the Mutual Recognition Agreement between the two institutions and the qualifying process to Chartered membership. The Institution recognises the professional competencies and standards demonstrated by MIEAust members who are of CPEng status and are members of Engineers Australia Structural College. The Institution has deemed such members to be of a Chartered standard and as such they are eligible to become Associates (AIStructE) of the Institution without the need to sit the Chartered Membership Examination. The Associate grade is a Chartered grade and confers a number of rights and benefits. Upon election to the grade of Associate individual members: may use the title “Chartered Structural Engineer” in the same way as Members (MIStructE) and Fellows (FIStructE) of the Institution have full voting rights and access to the benefits, services and facilities of the Institution including post-nominals, journals, events, networking and knowledge sharing may choose to transfer to Fellowship of the Institution using the same process as Members (MIStructE). Associates choosing to transfer to Fellowship will not be required to sit the Chartered Membership Examination. Fellows registered with Engineers Australia may apply for transfer to Institution Fellowship in parallel with the Associate application. may register with the Engineering Council as a Chartered Engineer (CEng) The Associate grade provides a route to Chartered membership that acknowledges the competence and ability of MIEAust members which has been demonstrated through a robust qualifying process. As such Associates are not required to sit another Professional Review Interview or the Chartered Membership Examination to gain Chartered status. Once elected to the grade of Associate or Fellow members will be required to pay the appropriate annual subscription fee.
