The Wave Project is an award-winning not-for-profit Community Interest Company, which
began in Cornwall in 2010 and now operates projects all over the UK. The Wave Project in
Dorset started in 2013 with funding from Dorset Healthcare NHS Trust. The Wave Project
in Dorset remains partly funded by the NHS.
This post is entirely funded by the Big Lottery Fund. It is a three-year contract subject to a
successful six-month probationary period.

Purpose of the Job
This job is a full-time post for 30 hours per week, normally spread over 5 days including a
least one day at weekends. The main focus of the role is to help young people aged 8-21
improve their mental health by going surfing. Each course will last six weeks and take
place between April and October.
Tasks and Responsibilities
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for successful organisation and
implementation of volunteer-led surf courses in Dorset and South Devon. They will set up
and run 10 surf courses per year and support the running of the Wave Project Surf Club.
The post-holder will:
 ensure that all the places are taken up by implementing a sound promotional
strategy;
 be responsible for ensuring that clients and their families feel comfortable and
supported throughout the process;
 ensure that required resources are in place to deliver a quality experience for
clients, including adequate numbers of trained volunteers.
The post-holder will work alongside The Wave Project Dorset NHS Coordinator to ensure
courses run smoothly. They will be expected to attend courses in person in order to
welcome clients and volunteers and ensure that projects are being delivered safely. They
will be expected to work flexible hours, including at weekends.
The Project Coordinator will also be responsible for the successful evaluation of each
course, using client questionnaires, focus groups and written feedback to assess the
success of each individual course. These evaluations will be written up into reports for the
Chief Executive to present to the Board of Directors.
The Project Coordinator will be an ambassador for The Wave Project at all times. They
will promote the work of the project both in the media and online, and attend events,
conferences and networking opportunities. They will also be expected to liaise with local
schools to develop future projects.
