ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
The election of any person to the Athletic Hall of Fame is a distinct honor and while the
criteria are guidelines, the ultimate decision as to who shall receive this honor is to be made by
the Hall of Fame Board of Directors, who recognize that the achievements of the honoree far
exceed what is considered exceptional in his or her field.
PURPOSE:
The purpose of the University of La Verne Athletic Hall of Fame is to honor the sport’s
tradition of the university in the context of the Liberal Arts experience by, (1) honoring former
students and athletic staff members who have brought recognition to themselves and the
university through their achievements on the athletic fields, and as leaders in their communities
and in their chosen profession, (2) encouraging current student athletes to strive to attain the
highest standards of performance, (3) familiarizing the entire campus community and the alumni
with the university’s athletic history, and (4) encourage a continuing relationship between
alumni, our athletic programs, and the university.
HALL OF FAME ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
An athlete must have earned at least two letters in one sport or one letter in two or more
sports and have attended the University of La Verne a minimum of two years. The athlete will
not be considered until 5 years after the class in which he/she entered graduated. If the candidate
did not receive a degree, he or she must have left the University in good academic and financial
standing.
A coach, athletic administrator, trainer or staff member must have attended the University
of La Verne or served the University of La Verne for at least 10 years and have retired (or left
the University) prior to being selected. He/She must be so outstanding that there is no question
as to qualifying for the Hall of Fame. Inductees must be passed by all members of the Board of
Directors.
BASIC SELECTION CRITERIA
The candidates must have demonstrated outstanding achievement in athletic competition.
Examples of outstanding achievement criteria is as follows:

University post-season honors
2.
Holder of a University record
3.
1st Team All Conference
4.
1st Team All Conference in two sports
5.
Player of the Year in a sport in the conference
6.
1st Team All Region

All-American selection in a sport
A world champion in any sport
A member of the United States Olympic team
The holder of a conference or national record
The holder of a world record
A national champion in any sport
Success as a profession athlete
General contribution to society as evidence by leadership in community
and profession – (church affairs)
The first Hall of Fame class (1993) consists of 8 inductees. No more than 6 nominees
may be elected to the Hall of Fame in a single year for the next four years, (1994-1997).
At this time the number of inductees per year will be reviewed and changes made if
necessary. There is no limit, however, to the number of times an individual may be
considered. In exceptional cases the above requirements may be waived by the
unanimous vote of the Board of Directors.

HOW TO NOMINATE:
Any person who wishes to nominate an individual must submit the name and current
address, if possible and some documentation of why the person is worthy of selection. All
nominations will be kept on file and will be given consideration every year.
HOW TO HONOR:
Each inductee will receive an individual plaque with a metal etched photograph and a
brief write up of her/her major University of La Verne and career athletic accomplishments.
Recognition for Hall of Fame will also be displayed in the Hall of Fame/Trophy Room in the
Student Center. Inductees will receive two complimentary tickets for the banquet. A luncheon
will be held in their honor at the Hanawalt House Saturday afternoon before the Induction.
