Autograph Activity
Trig Graphs y = asinx and y = cosx + d
Open a new graph page on Autograph in Standard Mode
Enter equation y= asinx and then . . .
choose ‘Autoscale’
Use the constant controller to investigate the effect of changing ‘a’
Use ‘Zoom’ out and/or
‘Edit Axes’ to see the ‘full picture’
Try a = 2, 3, 4, . . . ½, ¼, 0.1 . . . etc and then make a conjecture:
Write down, in your own words,
the significance of the value of ‘a’ in
the equation y = asinx:
Suggest a possible equation for the
‘sine’ graph shown opposite
Open another new graph page on Autograph
Enter equation y= cosx + d and then . . .
choose ‘Autoscale’
Use the constant controller to investigate the effect of changing ‘d’
Try d = 2, 3, 4 . . . and then −2, −3, −4 . . . etc and then make a conjecture:
Write down, in your own words,
the significance of the value of ‘d’ in
the equation y = cosx + d:
Suggest a possible equation for the
‘cosine’ graph shown opposite
