Join our award-winning sustainability team at Arizona State University. The Office of Sustainability
Practices houses a team that oversees the design and implementation of programs that address
ASU’s sustainability goals which include: carbon neutrality, zero waste, active engagement and
principled practice.
The Director of the Office of Sustainability Practices will be responsible for planning and directing all
activities of the department. These include strategic planning; program management,
administration and development; community engagement and relationship building. This position
works closely with student organizations and the campus community educating and implementing
sustainability programs that further advance the university sustainability goals and result in reduced
environmental impact. The Office of Sustainability Practices works as part of ASU’s Global Institute
of Sustainability. Must be knowledgeable and passionate about sustainability issues and have drive
and enthusiasm to inspire and educate others. The director will stay abreast of emerging
sustainable business strategies and policies, and other key sustainability tools and techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field (environmental science, engineering, or a field with a relation to
environmental issues/sustainability) and 5 years of experience managing a sustainability program in a complex
organization which includes 3 years supervisory experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience with the following: program development, design and implementation;
operational analysis and strategic planning; effective oral and written communication skills. Evident
experience with partnership development internally and externally, staff management and
development, working across functional and organizational boundaries. Sustainability management
/leadership experience in higher education desirable.

The Global Institute of Sustainability is the hub of Arizona State University's sustainability initiatives.
The Institute advances research, education, and business practices for an urbanizing world. Its
School of Sustainability, the first of its kind in the U.S., offers transdisciplinary degree programs
focused on finding practical solutions to environmental, economic, and social challenges.
The University Sustainability Practices Office is located in the Global Institute of Sustainability is the
keeper of the vision and goals for the university-wide sustainability practices vision of Carbon
Neutrality, Zero Solid/Water Waste, Active Engagement, and Principled Practice. The office serves as
a guide and resource for the integration of sustainability practices in ASU's small city of over eightytwo thousand people.
Must possess a valid Arizona Driver's License upon employment, and maintain it throughout
employment.
Work Schedule:
M-F 8-5; some flexibility as needed
