Humanities I Mrs. Cave-Mattie Oedipus Rex Culminating Project Microsoft Publisher Creation: Playbill As a culminating project for our studies on Greek Theater and Oedipus Rex, you will create a Playbill for a performance of an Oedipus Rex play. This project will be created in Microsoft Publisher, using the “Programs” option. You will first have to decide if you would like to work alone or with ONE partner. You will NOT be given class time to work on this project; therefore, should you choose to work with another student, I suggest you consider the time element. Other decisions you have to make are: who will play the roles of the characters we have met in the play? In order to decide this, you will need to study the list of characters and try to select the BEST actors and actresses to fulfill those roles. If you were the casting director, who would you choose (from our many famous actors, of course). Or, if you would like to be creative, and if you can get their permission, you can choose members of the Humanities classroom to fill the roles. You would have to, however, get their pictures, because pictures of the actors are required. You will also have to decide who the director is, along with the sound director, set manager, costume designer, make-up artist, etc. Again, these roles can be filled by famous individuals, OR members of our classroom. Overall, there are certain elements that you are REQUIRED to include in your Playbill. These elements are: list of characters with a description of each character (not the actor portraying the character, but the characters themselves, which means you need to use your knowledge from our reading of Oedipus Rex to complete this), plot summary (again, use your knowledge), setting (time and place), a breakdown of the episodes (perhaps with a summary of each), and information on the playwright (use your knowledge). You will also need to create the cover so that it looks like a traditional Playbill. And, your Playbill MUST be printed in color! Optional items include a theatre quiz, advertisements (appropriate, of course), perhaps a history of the theatre it is being performed in, director’s notes, etc. You will want to include some pictures of the play being performed. Obviously, you will need to find these online and “pretend” they are your actors performing them. I will show you some examples of Playbills that were created by my theatre classes in the past, but please remember that their requirements were different. Don’t procrastinate…..you have plenty of time to make these look fantastic. It will be obvious to me if you waited until the last minute! Get to work planning NOW, and if you have any technology questions or concerns, ask me SOON, rather than telling me at the last minute you are running into difficulties.
