For credit, homework is to be done in pencil; the date, text section number, problem numbers and your name should be written at the top of the page; the problems should be done neatly and in order with all work shown. (NEATNESS COUNTS) It is okay to leave a blank space at a question if you cannot do it, and ask that question during office hours or at the beginning of class. You should put a star by any question that you have difficulty with and ask about it. Some homework will be collected as a class participation grade and some will be collected as extra credit. Note that mathematics requires understanding and practice, practice, practice. It is similar to practicing free throws, a foreign language, or even a speech. There will be lots of opportunity to practice in class with your professor and classmates present for reinforcement and to answer questions. Your homework assignments have been carefully chosen to allow you the opportunity to practice outside of class. It is important that you complete all your homework to the best of your ability and check your answers so that you know what you are getting right and wrong. Therefore, you can ask good questions in class the next day. Realize that your test and quiz questions will be very similar to your homework, so you should practice and clear up all mistakes with homework before taking a quiz or test. Homework is the number one indicator of how well you will do on tests, quizzes and therefore in the course.
