Stage 1: Test Cases in Calm Water - Roll decay test It is proposed to study separately the damaged condition of the ship in calm water, which is well defined and feasible to be inspected and validated by model experimental tests, before proceeding to a repeat of a study on the damaged ship’s stability in waves. This should clarify identified problems in properly predicting some fundamental properties of the damaged ship, like the employed damping models and the ship’s natural period. This part of the benchmark study, which can be completed within the present committee’s period, should consist of the following (study on at least two ship cases): Numerical reproduction of intact ship roll decay test Numerical reproduction of roll decay test of ship with trapped water inside specified compartment, variation of the amount of water (and position). Numerical reproduction of in/egress flow through specified damage opening (possible: variation of damage opening), comparison with results of captive of forced motion model tests. Numerical reproduction of roll decay test of a ship with specified damage opening.
