URL placement in Millennium records (856). 3/23/2006 approved by BibCat Current Practice 1. This proposal outlines a change that affects records which currently contain a URL for electronic access. It is not suggested that these changes be turned into a project, rather cataloging and auxiliary staff should make changes as they come across the records as a part of their normal work. A. The following titles will be affected by the proposal: i. Shared bibliographic record that has a title with a URL that gives access to one specific location or one acquisition process (Ex. HeinOnline, JSTOR, etc.) (See figure 1.1, 1.2). ii. B. Titles that have more than one URL. (See figure 2.1, 2.2) The following titles will not be affected by the proposal: i. Titles with URLs that are inherent to the description of the title and are accessible to all, regardless of location or acquisition process (Ex. USGPO titles) (Figures 3.1, 3.2) ii. Monographs and any other titles that do not have a record c Holdings will have the 856 field remain in the bibliographic record. (Figure 4.1, 4.2) 2. A shared bibliographic record that has a title with a URL specific to one location (paragraph 1 section A, above). A. URL will be placed in the bib record and in the c Holdings (formerly the Summary Holdings screen, MHLD, in USCAN) as an active link in an 856 field. (Figure 5.1, 5.2) B. For serials and titles that have c Holdings in record, place the URL in the c check in record. Again, use index y for the 856 field, |u for the URL and |z for the public note.
