The Graduate School of Education and Counseling at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, offers a full-time (1.0 FTE) assistant/associate tenure-track position in the Educational Leadership
Department with appointment commencing August 2011. This position involves teaching, student advising and program coordination responsibilities in the Educational Administration Program, an expectation for scholarly productivity, institutional service, and the potential of teaching in the
Doctor of Education Program.
The individual in this position will play a critical role in the design, development, and continuous improvement of graduate and administrative license programs in the department. Depending on the qualifications and professional aspirations of the successful candidate, the position could include program administrative and leadership responsibilities. We are looking for an energetic, promising practitioner-scholar with the training and expertise to contribute to an innovative, equity-oriented leadership preparation program that partners closely with local school districts to not only prepare aspiring principals and teacher-leaders, but also to support practicing administrators in their continued learning. The level of appointment will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Responsibilities:
Teaching graduate courses in the M.Ed., Ed.S., and two-tier Principal Licensure programs
Participate as an active member of an Educational Leadership Department faculty with a long-standing commitment to the preparation of exceptional practitioners prepared to engage entire school communities in promoting environments for teaching and learning in which all students realize their potential
Be an innovator willing to work proactively and collaboratively with school and district partners in the development of programs to serve as models of excellence
Supervise field-based practicum students, advise students, participate in program governance and other college and program-related service
Utilize excellent interpersonal skills and work collaboratively with others in a rigorous program of study for practitioner/scholars
Participate in professional associations at the local, state, regional, and national/international levels
Demonstrate a promising research and publication agenda, and a commitment to seeking external funding
Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate in school leadership, educational administration, or a closely related field with strong content background in educational leadership
Ability and background to teach a variety of courses in PK-12 educational leadership
High level of cultural competence and demonstrated strong leadership in building an equitable, inclusive, and diverse scholarly environment
Ability to serve on or chair dissertation committees for doctoral students in educational leadership (experience preferred) applying scholarship which integrates critical, cultural, and interdisciplinary perspectives
Record of, or potential for, productive scholarly activity as a college faculty member pursuing an active publication and research agenda. More senior candidates should have a
sustained record of publications and research at the national or international levels, and meet the requirements for the rank as established by the college
Demonstrated excellence in teaching and student advising
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
Successful leadership experience working with students, faculty, and staff in PK-12 settings or district office to improve student outcomes
Experience in developing collaborative school-community partnerships with other universities and local education agencies
Knowledge and experience related to working with diverse communities
Knowledge and experience using online, and/or hybrid teaching formats
A proven track record of grant writing
