Albert Moyano was born (1955) and educated in Barcelona. He graduated in Chemistry at the University
of Barcelona (1978), where he also obtained a PhD in Organic Chemistry, under the guidance of
Professor Félix Serratosa. After a postdoctoral stage at the “Joseph Fourier” University in Grenoble
(1985-1986) in the laboratory of Professor Andrew E. Greene, working in asymmetric cycloadditions, he
came back to the University of Barcelona, where he is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry since 2003.
His scientific activity over the years has involved work in theoretical organic chemistry (localized
molecular orbitals, theory of aromaticity), in the application of organometallic chemistry to organic
synthesis (development of enantioselective versions of the Pauson-Khand reaction), and in the
asymmetric synthesis of biologically active compounds. His present research interests are centered in the
enantioselective synthesis of metallocenes, in the development of new methods of catalytic asymmetric
organic synthesis, and in the study of asymmetric autocatalysis and of spontaneous symmetry-breaking
processes. Albert Moyano is the head of the research project AYA2009-13920-C02-02, Experimental and
theoretical models for the abiotic emergence of chirality and its detection as the signature for evolutive systems in
extraterrestrial materials, coordinates the Research Group on Chirality Emergence, Amplification and
Transfer (2009 SGR 881), and is Scientific Advisor to ENANTIA (www.enantia.com), a company
devoted to chemical research and development, custom synthesis and crystal engineering, with a strong
focus on asymmetric chemistry and co-crystallization technologies. Albert Moyano has authored or coauthored more than 180 scientific papers, several patents, and book chapters, and has an h-index (Hirsch
index) of 37.
