St Anne’s N.S. is a thirteen teacher school, with 9 classroom teachers, the
Principal, a Resource Teacher and 2 Learning Support Teacher. It is a mixed
school, catering for pupils from Junior Infants to sixth class. St Anne’s is a
Catholic school under the patronage of the Bishop of Kildare and Leighlin.

The school depends on the grants and teacher resources provided by the
Department of Education and Skills and it operates within the regulations laid
down, from time to time by the Department. The school Enrolment policy must
have regard to the resources and funding available.
This enrolment policy is in accordance with the Rules for National Schools and also
with the Education Act 1998.
The Board trusts that in setting out this policy, parents will be assisted in relation
to enrolment matters.
The chairperson, Dr Marie Griffin and the Principal, Mrs Patricia King will be
happy to clarify any further matter arising from the policy.
Within the context of the regulations and programmes of the Department of
Education & Skills the rights of the Patron and the resources available, St Anne’s
school supports the principles of:
 Inclusiveness
 Equality of access and participation
 Parental choice in relation to enrolment
 Respect for the diversity of values, beliefs, traditions.

Section B Procedures
1. Application Procedures
Parents who wish to enrol children for junior infants are welcome to do so
at any time during the school year by filling out an application form and
returning it to the school office.
Applications for September enrolments should be made before a given
closing date in February. For September 2013 this was Friday 8th February.
(Later applications will be considered if any remaining places.)
The Board will issue reminders to parents through the parish bulletin,
school notes and notice in the local shop.
2. Provision of key information
Parents will be required to provide details of:
 Pupils name, date of birth and address*
 Names of parents/guardians.
 Contact telephone numbers
 Details of medical conditions and/or special needs.
 Religion
 Reason for transfer if applicable
 Names of siblings currently attending or who have attended.
*A recent utility bill will be required as proof of residence.
3. Decision Making
Decisions in relation to applications are made by the Board of Management
in accordance with school policy.
The Board must consider the availability of space, the D.E.S. guidelines in
relation to class size and staffing provisions and any other relevant
requirements concerning accommodation when making its decision.
Rules for National Schools provide that pupils may only be enrolled from
the age of 4 and upwards.

In the event that applications for enrolment exceed the number of places
available, the Board will apply the following criteria in its decision making:

First preference will be given to children who have siblings already
attending St Anne’s.
Second preference will go to children who live closest to the school.
Where further criteria are necessary to distinguish between applicants, the order
will be:

Children of staff members
(d)
Children of past pupils
(e)
Date of Birth
(f)
Catholic children outside the locality, and finally
(g)
Earliest application remaining.
4. Admission Date
Junior infants will be admitted to school on September 1st
Pupils moving to school from another area/school may do so at other times by
arrangement with the principal and subject to places being available.
5. Children with Special Needs
On receipt of an application for enrolment of a child with special needs, the Board
will request a copy of the child’s medical and/or psychological report, (where this
is available). In the absence of a report, the Board will request that the child be
assessed. The purpose of this assessment report is to assist the school in
establishing the child’s educational and training needs relevant to his/her
disability or special needs and to profile the support services required. Where the
Board deems there is a need to apply to the D.E.S. for extra resources to meet
the child’s needs, an application for these resources will be made prior to the
enrolment of the child.
6. Pupils Transferring
Pupils may transfer to the school as per note no. 4 above.(in some cases subject to
the approval of the D.E.S.)
Information concerning attendance and educational progress should be
communicated between schools
