FLORIDA A&M UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF ALLIED HEALTH SCIENCES Division of Occupational Therapy ADMISSION PROCESS Master of Science in Occupational Therapy ADMISSIONS PROCESS Florida A&M University Division of Occupational Therapy MSOT Program Admission to the MSOT Program is a TWO STEP process. An applicant must FIRST apply and be accepted to the University through the School of Graduate Studies. The applicant must then apply to the Division of Occupational Therapy. Acceptance to the University DOES NOT automatically confer admission status to the MSOT Program. The requirements and procedures for admission into the University and the MSOT Program are outlined in this application packet and on the Division’s Website: http://www.famu.edu/acad/colleges/ahs/ot.cfm The following process and documentation must be submitted by ALL applicants. The Admission Committee will only consider candidates whose applications are complete. Eligible candidates MAY be interviewed by the Admissions Committee. Applicants must submit evidence of application and acceptance to the School of Graduate Studies. This admission is required to be considered for admission to the MSOT Program. The candidate MUST meet the following minimum requirements identified by the University. (A) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent degree from an institution of recognized standing in another country. No particular undergraduate degree or concentration is required. Diversity of backgrounds is encouraged. (B) A GPA of 3.0 or better in the last 60 semester hours (or equivalent) of completed undergraduate coursework (C) Completion of all pre-requisite coursework by Summer of the admission year with a GPA of 3.0 or above, (D) An official score on the combined verbal and analytical sections of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). Official scores should be submitted to the School of Graduate Studies by the application deadline, (E) Students from countries where English is not the official and primary language must also take and receive a score of at least 250 on the computer version or 500 on the written version of the TOEFL. 2 2. Transcripts: Applicants must submit OFFICIAL copies of all transcripts, from ALL colleges and/or universities attended. Transcripts from foreign colleges and universities must be evaluated by an accepted international credentialing agency. 3. Course Description: Course syllabi and/or course descriptions must be submitted for all courses not taken at Florida A&M University. 4. Volunteer / Work Hours: Candidates for admission to graduate level coursework must provide documentation of significant inquiry into the practice of Occupational Therapy. Documentation must reflect completion of a minimum of thirty (30) hours of volunteer and/or work experience in at least two (2) Occupational Therapy settings. Documented evidence must be on company or business letterhead signed by a licensed/registered occupational therapist. The hours of observation are specifically based on applicant observation of a licensed/registered therapist during the provision of occupational therapy services. 5. Letters of Recommendation: Applicants MUST see that three (3) letters of recommendation using the “Letter of Recommendation” form in this packet are submitted from persons able to attest to the qualities identified on the form. (A) One must be from a course instructor or academic advisor. (B) Another should be from a supervisor in a professional or work capacity and if possible (C) Another should be from an individual in a health-care or related profession. 6. Admissions Essay: The student must submit a typed essay expressing understanding of and commitment to the profession. The three topics to be addressed are listed under “Admissions Essay” on page 11 of this packet. 7. Notarized statement: The applicant must attest to the accuracy of all his/her statements before a Notary Public, using the form on the last page of this packet.
