March 1, 2008 ASSESSMENTS OF STUDENT LEARNING OUTCOMES Departmental Compliance Report -- 2007 DEPARTMENT: College of Visual & Performing Arts___ Table 1. Documentation that learning outcomes are incorporated into the curriculum for all undergraduate and graduate programs. In the table below, state the expected learning outcomes from the Program-Level Assessment Plans and then list the course or courses, including prefix, number, and title, in the Relevant Courses column that address that expected outcome. If 3 or more courses address an expected learning outcome, list only 3 courses that are most important for students to achieve the expected outcome. Degree Program: Item 1 2 3 4 Bachelor of General Studies (CVPA) CIP 24.0102.00 Expected Learning Outcomes Students will become, to a certain extent, a performer, creator, viewer, analyst, critic, communicator, problem solver, theorist, and historian in one or more of the visual and performing arts. Students will demonstrate a basic level of competency in the content of their areas of concentration. Students will extrapolate salient issues in other areas of human achievement and competence. Students will report a synthesis of and an awareness of differences and commonalities regarding work in artistic, scientific, and humanistic domains; a personal artistic/intellectual mission; and a sense of individual responsibility for cultural development as a whole and artistic development in particular. _ Relevant Courses All courses taken in the CVPA All courses taken in the three areas of concentration All core curriculum courses All courses taken in the program March 1, 2008 DEPARTMENT: College of Visual & Performing Arts___ Table 2. Discussion of the methods used to assess the learning outcomes as well as the instruments used to assess the attainment of learning outcome goals by undergraduate and graduate programs. For each degree program, provide a brief discussion of the methods, including specific instruments, used to assess student learning outcomes. The Program-Level Assessment Plan lists the methods of assessment for each expected outcome. In the boxes below describe those methods of assessment. If national standardized exams are used state the name of the exam. The information in Table 2 should be an overview description of the methods used. If specific assessment instruments (or assessment rubrics) need to be developed to conduct an assessment, then clearly indicate what is still needed and when those instruments will be used. The boxes will expand as information is added to the box. Degree Program: Bachelor of General Studies (CVPA) CIP 24.0102.00 _ Graduation rate: 75% of students enrolled in the program will graduate. Transcript Analysis: Audit of courses taken. Grades: 100% of students graduating will achieve grades of “C” or better in all concentration area course work. Transcript Analysis: Audit of courses taken. Course Work Completion: 100% of students graduating will successfully complete the core curriculum. Transcript Analysis: Audit of courses taken. Exit Interview and Survey: 90% of students graduating will participate in an exit interview and survey. DEPARTMENT: College of Visual & Performing Arts___ Table 3. Summarize the data collected and evidence of the use of results of those data For each degree program, describe the data that has been collected to date and indicate how the results of the data analysis have been used. It should be noted that in some cases, the results will indicate that at this time the expected learning outcomes are being achieved and there is not a need to change or improve a program. However, it is unlikely that all data for all programs indicate that no improvements are needed. If no data has been collected for a degree program assessment, indicate that is the case and provide a justification for the lack of data and a detailed discussion of how data collection is to be accomplished and be reported in the next Annual Assessment Report. March 1, 2008 Degree Program: Bachelor of General Studies (CVPA) CIP 24.0102.00 _ Graduation rate: Program inception was fall 2004. Graduation rates will not be available until the program has been in existence long enough for IRIM to compile 5- and 6-year graduation rate data. Of the 9 students enrolled in the program, none graduated during 2007; one changed majors within the CVPA to a major based on one of the 3 original concentration areas; one transferred to a major in another college based on one of the 3 original concentration areas. Grades: Of the 9 students, 2 achieved honors lists (1 Pres., 1 Dean); 2 were placed on probation and subsequently left TTU-no reasons cited. Course Work Completion: No students graduated from this program during 2007. Exit Interview and Survey: No students graduated from this program during 2007. Overall Assessment: Based on the length of time the BGS program has been in existence, no programmatic changes appear to be needed at this point. Student progress and advisement will continue to be closely monitored. Annual assessment will continue, and any modifications, if needed, will be made based on that assessment.
