National Chiao Tung University Institute of Traffic and Transportation Graduation Requirement for PH. D. Degree 1.Period of Study a. Time required to complete the degree is ranging from 3 to 7 years, depending on the student progress. b. Student, who has published papers on SCI, SSCI, TSSCI, EI, or Journal Paper with equivalent level during the course of study, can apply for early graduation. 2.Requirement for graduation PH. D. students enrolled in Institute of Traffic and Transportation will require minimum of 24 credits with the following criteria for graduation: a. PH. D. students will have to take at least 6 professional courses (excluding dissertation seminar and designated topic seminar), including at least 2 courses offered outside the institute. b. Before passing the Qualification Examination, students must take the course "Dissertation Seminar" in each semester, where the corresponding credits won't be counted in graduated credits. c. After passing the Qualification Examination, students must take the course " Designated Topic Seminar" in each semester, where the corresponding credits won't be counted in graduated credits. d. Students must take at least 1 course from each one of four professional course domains provided by the institute. In addition, students can also take 2 IMBA courses (6 credits). e. Students must complete thesis and pass the degree oral examination. 3.Qualification Examination Application PH. D. students can't apply Qualification Examination before taking at least 12 credits, involving at least 1 course from each professional course domain (excluding courses offered outside the institute). Students are allowed to apply for reexamination after six months in case of failing in Qualification Examination. The student will be dropped out if they do not pass Qualification Examination in 3 years. 4.Thesis Adviser and Research Area a. Students have to seek full-time professors as their thesis advisers depending on their study interests and areas before registering at spring term in the first year. b. The thesis adviser must be a full-time professor of ITT. 1 5. PH. D. students must satisfy the following requirements in order to apply the dissertation examination. a. Pass the Qualification Examination b. Publish 1 paper on journal on either SCI or SSCI or 2 papers on international journals with peer-review systems during the courses of study. 6. The Graduation Requirement has been approved by the Office of ITT, College of Management, and Office of Academic Affairs.
