Bursaries for Heritage Related Studies: 2015
The Department of Arts and Culture invites applications for bursaries for students who wish
to pursue studies in heritage courses. The bursary will finance both undergraduates and
post graduates in the following fields:
Fields of study
• Archaeology (marine, etc.)
• Archives and records management
• Conservation of the built environment
• Restorative and preventive conservation
• Collections (cultural & natural) management
• Heritage resources management
• Museum management and curatorship
• Courses that contribute to the preservation and promotion of S.A. Living Heritage
Eligibility
• South African citizenship
• Academic potential / satisfactory academic performance (academic progress report if
already at an institution)
• Field of study (heritage related)
• Financially needy
• Admission letter or proof of registration at an accredited institution of higher learning
• NB: people with disability are encouraged to apply
Value of the Bursary
• Study fees (incl. registration & tuition)
• Accommodation & meals
• The bursary is renewable if the student meets the requirements for the following year
• NB: Funds are payable directly to the institution of higher learning

• Certified copy of the salary statement and/or proof of income and affidavit of your
parents/guardians(if not working)
• Certified copy of Grade 12 June examination results / Grade 12 / Matric results

Harmony Bursary Scheme 2015 Applications
Harmony Bursary Scheme
We acknowledge that our employees present and potential have aspirations but perhaps
not the means to be formerly educated in their fields of interest. To this end we have
created the Harmony Bursary Scheme which awards successful applicants, bursaries for full
time study at accredited tertiary institutions. The scheme covers tuition and residence fees,
the cost of prescribed text books and also provides a personal allowance.
The scheme is designed to contribute to the development of historically disadvantaged
South Africans.
For the year 2015 preference is given to the following fields which are functional to the
mining industry:

Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current ONLY)
IT (Information technology)

year to be used the following year. If your application is successful you will be asked to enter
into a contractual obligation with Harmony Gold Ltd. Detail of this agreement will be

LLB Study Bursaries for 2015
The minimum requirement for qualification for such a bursary is a BA (Law), B Comm (Law),
B Iuris or B Proc degree or a similar qualification or proof of successful completion of the
first two years of the revised 4-year LLB curriculum.
If you are currently in your 1st semester of your second year, we can assist with a bursary
for your 3rd and 4th year of study.
OR
If you are currently in your 1st semester of your third year, we can assist with a bursary for
your final year of study.
Preference will be given to applicants in serious financial need, although outstanding
academic merit will be taken into consideration.
A bursary shall only be applied towards the tuition fees of a recipient.
The Fund’s Board of Control will in each case determine the amount of the bursary.
A bursary can be awarded for a maximum period of two years at a South African University.

Content
The South African Reserve Bank (the Bank), as part of addressing the severe shortage of
skills in South Africa, provides bursaries to students in relevant fields of study who are from
disadvantaged backgrounds. The purpose of the bursary scheme is to assist financially
needy students who obtain good results in Matric / Grade 12 and who want to study in
fields relevant to the Bank. The bursary is intended for undergraduate studies at a South
African university on a full-time basis.

A certified copy of your June (current year) matric results or certified copy of
Matric results if completed before current year.
Proof of enrolment at a recognized institution
An essay of 250 words to motivate your case.

Post-Bursary Obligations
The Bank will have first right of refusal with regard to funded students, that is, bursary
holders will be obliged to work for the Bank for a period equal to their bursary period,
unless the Bank chooses not to employ them.
Students who choose not to work for the Bank despite the Bank offering them a position
after completing their studies will be required to pay the full cost of the bursary back to the
Bank.
The Bank will provide students who are Bank bursary holder’s vacation work opportunities
that are funded by the Bank.

Description
ISASA is offering prospective Foundation Phase, Intermediate and FET teachers the

What can I win?
Winners of the Competition are awarded a cash amount and the opportunity to access a
study bursary to pursue a three year degree/diploma in the fields of economics, finance,

What do I need to do?
Essay Task Scenario:
"South Africa's membership of the block of leading emerging economies and its unique
position in Africa heralded the country's role as a gateway into the African continent.
However, trade experts question whether it can live up to this position as investors begin to
increasingly look towards other African markets.
Investments previously destined for South Africa are more and more diverted to the likes of
Nigeria and Kenya. Though it is unlikely to immediately become a flood, if current trends
continue, then in 10 years’ time, the reality may be very different. "

ETDP SETA Bursaries 2015
The Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority
(ETDP SETA) is one of 23 SETAs established as a result of the Skills Development Act.
The main purpose of the SETAs is to address skills shortages in South Africa by identifying
the skills needs of specific industries and sectors, to be a conduit to up-skilling both
employed and unemployed citizens, to assess and monitor their progress and ensure that
they successfully complete their programmes and are certified as competent to compete in
the workplace and find suitable employment.
The ETDP SETA focuses on the Education, Training and Development (ETD) sector and
promotes and facilitates skills development in this sector and achieves its goals through a
number of different skills development interventions including bursaries, amongst others.
There are a number of bursaries available for learners who have successfully completed
Grade 12 and wish to pursue a career in the ETD sector. If this describes you, please apply to
the ETDP SETA and the Department of Education or enquire about other funding schemes.

Teaching Bursaries
Investec entered into a partnership with ISASA and Department of Basic Education. This
initiatives aims to develop quality Maths, Science and English teachers.
The students are enrolled at UNISA to complete a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree.
During this time each student is assigned to one of the independent schools in SA i.e. St
Stithians, Kingsmead, St Mary’s etc where the student will shadow and learn from the best
teachers in the country with a specific focus on mathematics and how to teach it.Over this
period, each student is allocated a mentor to ensure positive role modelling, strong support
and quality supervision. Students attend academic camps that offer ongoing motivation and
support to bolster their professional and academic development to ensure that they sustain
the momentum which has been established.
When the teachers qualify, they will be required to teach at public schools to ensure
transfer of best practice.
