Job Description Job title: IoD Course Leader Specialism: Corporate Governance and board effectiveness Job type: Associate contract Responsible to: IoD Professional Development team – Learning and Standards Overall job purpose: Main responsibilities: To act as an ambassador and thought leader for the IoD and promote the importance of professional development for directors and boards To deliver the IoD’s ‘Role of the Director and the Board’ (RCD) course to directors and boards across open and in-house programmes To deliver other courses in the IoD’s portfolio to directors and boards across open and in-house programmes, which are related to the Course Leader’s specialism To design and develop bespoke programmes for inhouse clients, which are related to the Course Leader’s specialism To undertake consultancy assignments relating to the Course Leader’s specialism Deliver and/or design a range of courses on behalf of the IoD to the highest quality standards and that meet the need of our clients Assist in content production for the IoD’s ‘Role of the Director and the Board’ programme Contribute to the development of the overall syllabus for the Chartered Director programme Support the Learning and Standards team in the development of existing and new products and services Provide advice, expertise and support to the sales team when required Work closely with IoD key account managers and client stakeholders to understand their strategic learning plans and objectives Respond to subject related queries from delegates and clients in a timely manner Demonstrate a commitment to own continuous professional development and keep subject matter Key relationships: expertise up to date Assist the operations team in the smooth running of Professional Development events at the IoD or at the client site Report any relevant leads to the sales team Attend annual Course Leader and subject meetings To support the IoD is achieving its strategic goals Professional Development team – Learning and Standards Professional Development team – Sales IoD course delegates and in-house clients Lead Course Leader for Governance Other Course Leaders on the RCD team Other Course Leaders in the wider IoD Faculty Various locations across the UK and worldwide depending on client demand. Open course work will predominantly be based at our training centre in 123 -116 Pall Mall, London Regional work may be available in the following locations: o Edinburgh o Leamington Spa o Exeter Location: Date prepared: March 2014 Person Specification Essential requirements: A minimum of 7 years combined experience as an executive or non-executive director, senior executive, or in a senior board advisory role. Clear evidence of a high level of expertise and specialisation in corporate governance and board effectiveness. Evidence may include relevant academic or professional qualifications/experience, or a track record in a specialist role in the corporate governance (e.g. company secretary or corporate lawyer). Hold adequate Professional Indemnity insurance cover Qualifications and experience: Desirable: Prior teaching experience – although where this is not present, candidates should demonstrate outstanding teaching potential Prior learning and development experience at director level, including development and delivery of courses, programmes, exam questions, using learning technologies, coaching and mentoring etc. Advanced academic qualifications (e.g. a Masters’ degree or PhD) A publications record in the relevant field International experience, particularly in respect of nonUK courses and/or consultancy Commercial, public and/or third sector business experience Knowledge and skills Key personal attributes Be certified or experienced in the deployment of psychometric tests, personality diagnostics and/or profiling tools. In depth knowledge of corporate governance structures in the UK and major international markets Up to date awareness of the latest corporate governance reforms and legislation Highly IT literate Excellent facilitation and group management skills Ability to engage and build rapport with a wide range stakeholders Leadership skills and the ability to motivate and develop others UK and international business and commercial awareness Good project management skills An understanding of the IoD’s professional development portfolio and wide range of membership benefits Be collaborative, creative and open Willing to share ideas Team player Be commercially aware Ability to think globally Act as a role model for best practice in corporate governance Have a passion for continuous professional development Articulate and confident public speaker A consultative approach
