Job Description
Job Title: Associate Creative Director
Department: Creative
Reports To: Group Creative Director
Summary
Experienced specialist in either art or copy, supervises a group of Creatives to
produce outstanding creative work for our clients
Responsibilities
•
Responsible for the development and production of advertising assigned to
that group
•
Conceives and executes advertising consistent with the agreed strategy
•
Insures that creative is executed within agreed strategy, deadlines and
budgets
•
Attends for client meetings for presenting creative concepts
•
Manages creative work in Art Studio (and/or outside vendor) job i.e.:
comps, mechanicals, retouching, disc release, including the management of
time and budget
•
Works closely with Production (and/or TV production) to come up with the
best possible creative solutions for that job
•
Works with Art Buyer to hire outside talent (photography, illustration) via
portfolios supplying costs and other information
•
Assists in the review of Group personnel
•
Participates in and contributes to the new business activities of the agency
•
Manages the day to day workflow
•
Manages junior members of the team
•
Enforces adherence to quality standards for the team as set forth by the
department head
•
Fosters innovative solutions
•
Identifies short term and long term opportunities
•
Manages training and development for all junior team members
•
Works closely with upper management to identify and suggest solutions on
how to improve departmental and team morale
•
Keeps abreast of current trends and the latest technological advances
•
Aggressively pursues new ways to contribute to overall agency and client
profitability.
•
Works with department head to set junior team member's goals
•
Helps to elevate department's role in the whole advertising process
Tasks
•
Develops concepts and/or storyboards, collaborating with Production as
needed
•
Meets with Account and Traffic who review work in progress and select
desired concepts
•
Presents concepts to other corridors if necessary and revises
concepts/storyboards according to comments
•
Presents recommendations as appropriate (e.g. creative concepts, research,
lists, scripts, etc.) to client
•
Revises recommendations based on any client comments and share
approved recommendations with all departments
•
Generates a Concept Estimate for client presentation
•
Gives input to Traffic to generate a more accurate Key-Date Schedule after
concepts are selected
•
Discusses paper with Production prior to Production's ordering of samples
•
Develops a Spec Sheet in Pre-production meeting with Production, Media,
Studio and Strategic Services
•
Reviews paper recommendations (weight, color, etc.) and mechanicals with
client to obtain approval
•
Works with Art Buyer to get a bid on art required
•
Works with Art Buyer to give estimate to Traffic to put in Estimate
•
Creates art list and memo relating details of photo shoots/stock photos
•
Purchases art
•
Holds photo shoot
•
Discusses retouching with Art Director and/or Production Manager and client
to obtain approval
•
Gives input when image scanned for high resolution and retouching
•
Reviews and presents match print from Production and Studio to client for
approval
•
Loads final art into mechanical for final release
•
Works with copywriter to develop copy deck
•
Seeks internal approval of Copy Deck by Creative, Account and other
corridors
•
Reviews copy deck internally for legal considerations
•
Presents copy deck to client and revises copy based on client comments
•
Seeks approval from all involved on layout and/or mechanical
•
Works with Art director and studio to generate mechanicals
•
Provides Producer with approved storyboards, job number and air date
•
Works with Art Director, writer and producer to begin rough cut production
•

Gives input to Traffic to prepare Formal Estimate
Debriefs and presents project team with key findings
Helps to facilitate hiring, managing, developing, and promoting junior team
members
Participates in weekly departmental staff meetings
Attends interdepartmental briefings
Keeps supervisor apprised of the status of work
Qualifications
•
Experience, talent, judgment and imagination for the creation of an
advertisement
•
Skilled in critique and criticism and be able to manage and supervise both
art and copy
•
Art/Copy education in advertising design and conceptual thinking
•
Previous experience as a Senior Creative person in Direct Marketing
•
Must have strong interpersonal skills to foster optimal department
relationships
•
Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
•
Computer literate
•
Team builder
•
Strong problem solving skills and detail oriented
•
Minimum of a Bachelors degree or equivalent business experience preferred
