A career narrative is a 1 ½ - 2 ½ page typed essay that defines your career goals and
tells the reader a little bit about who you are, what you are good at, and why you have
chosen this path.
Section 1: Career Plan Sheet
Complete this plan sheet. This information will help you write your Career Narrative,
Complete one based on what you know about yourself and information you have
learned about yourself in class.
Part 1 Personal Profile
Interests: What do you like to do, what intrigues you, what do you enjoy learning about
and doing. This may include hobbies, sports, music, clubs, etc. BE SPECIFIC!

Section 2: Career Narrative
Now you should be ready to write your career narrative. Your final draft needs to be
typed. It should be in essay form and will be the introduction to your 4 th quarter project,
the Portfolio. Failure to complete this project will result in an incomplete and
possibly failing and loss of credit. Grading will be based on the attached rubric.
 Type should be 12 font in a plain easy to read font such as Arial, New Times
Roman etc.
 1 ½ -2 ½ pages
 1 ½ line spacing
Introduction:
Define your career goal. If you do not know for sure what you want to be, at least
identify a career cluster. Explain why you have chosen this career. What interests you
about it? Why do you think you would be successful at it? What experiences you have
had so far that lead you to think you would like this career?
Body:
Describe the career in all of the following areas
 job description: duties and responsibilities of the position
 personal qualities/characteristics needed for success
 working conditions and environment
 average salary
 benefits
 educational requirements
 cost and time of education
 where you can get the education needed
Conclusion:
 Include advantages and disadvantages for this career. It should be clear in your
writing that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. List the disadvantages
followed by the advantages.
 What Specific plans do you have for pursuing this career? Include further work
experience, classes/programs you will take post-secondary plans.
 End on a positive note. This should be a sample of your best work!!!
