JOB DESCRIPTION: Director of Hoover Library The Director of Hoover Library reports to the Provost and is responsible for the leadership and overall management of library services and collections. The Director is responsible for planning, budget, and staffing in support of the academic, instructional and information needs of faculty, students and staff. The Director has faculty status, is a member of the Provost’s Deans and Directors group and attends meetings of academic department chairs. RESPONSIBILITIES Direct Library operations, and manage and supervise library professional and support staff Consult with College faculty to determine library resources and service needs of academic programs and departments Develop programs and policies in support of the academic program overall and in key areas such as information literacy, student and faculty research, and technology Consult with College administrators to determine budget and personnel requirements and to coordinate library practices and procedures with College policies Consult with the Chief Information Officer to determine technology needs and resources and to provide support for information management and delivery Consult with Physical Plant Department to coordinate maintenance of and modifications to the Library building Develop and administer the Library’s annual operating budget Manage the Library’s physical collections Select and provide access to appropriate electronic information resources Represent the College at national and regional conferences Participate in leadership positions in appropriate professional associations Assess quality and effectiveness of programs and services QUALIFICATIONS Master’s in Library or Information Science required; additional graduate degree in an academic discipline desirable Minimum five years experience with increasing administrative responsibilities in an academic library Demonstrated expertise with information technology and library systems Commitment to higher education at the undergraduate and graduate level Service orientation and strong interpersonal and communication skills
