CUMBERLAND NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP
The Cumberland National Honor Society Scholarship is a one-time award of $1,000 to be used
to further the winner’s education at any accredited college or university.
The Scholarship criteria are as follows:
a. Applicants must be graduating seniors in the Class of 2012 in the following high schools
along the National Road.
Altamont
Brownstown
Casey-Westfield
St. Elmo
Cumberland
Effingham St. Anthony
Effingham High School
Teutopolis
Dieterich
Marshall
Martinsville
b. The recipient shall be a person of outstanding character, conduct, and achievement.
c. The recipient shall have at least a 3.0 grade point average on a 4.00 system or its equivalent.
d. The recipient shall respond to the essay topic in 300 words or less.
All applications and essays must be typed and returned to the following address NO LATER than
May 9, 2012 by 4:30 P.M. Applications must be mailed or delivered in person. Faxes will not be
accepted.

The applications will be number coded upon receipt withholding both name and school
affiliation. Applicants will be narrowed to five based upon the stated criteria by selected staff and
administrators at Cumberland. The final five applications and essays will be evaluated and a winner
determined by an impartial judge outside the districts involved. Announcement of the 2012 winner will
be made at the Toledo Ball Diamonds during the Freedom Day Celebration at 7:00 P.M. on Saturday,
June 30, 2012. The actual financial payment, however, will not be made until the winner has
successfully completed his/her first semester and has enrolled for the second semester at an accredited
college of his/her choice.
