licensed professionals to provide such services is rapidly growing.

professional in the beauty industry. The Aesthetic Science institute will take the person with the desire and turn
them into the professional with success.
Licensed estheticians are trained to perform facial and body treatments that will pamper and relax as well as
effect the condition and appearance of the skin. The use of specialized products and ingredients in conjunction
with certain techniques and equipment will guarantee visible results of healthy skin.
The Aesthetic Science Institute has graduated professionals in upstate NY, and beyond. Many of our students
have opened their own spas and skin care clinics, while others have flourished in spas and medical settings,
health facilities, sales and marketing; and training and education.
A specialized license in hair removal allows a technician to perform waxing services to remove unwanted hair
from the face and body for “aesthetic” purposes or medical reasons.
The Nail Specialty License is a perfect addition to an esthetic or waxing license; as well as providing for a
lucrative career on its’ own. Nail Specialist perform natural and artificial nail care services on the hands and the
feet. Licensed Nail Specialists are in high demand in specialty nail salons, salons, spas and even in medical
offices.
Choosing a career in skin care offers a host of opportunities. From hands on skill and building a business to
teaching, training or competing, a career as a professional esthetician can be what-ever one chooses to make it!

Michelle A. D’Allaird-Brenner
Michelle is a NY State licensed esthetician and International CIDESCO Diplomat. She is a consultant and
educator for international cosmetic companies around the world. Michelle is a contributing author to major
industry trade magazines, as well as a host and speaker for International Esthetics conferences in Miami,
Philadelphia, Dallas and Long Beach, CA. She is also a co-author of Salon Fundamentals esthetics textbook.
Michelle’s experience lies in education and curriculum development for esthetic, medical and laser courses.
Carlee Clark (Director)
Carlee is a graduate of the Aesthetic Science Institute, and has been a NYS licensed esthetician since 2008.
Carlee brings 10 years of Sales and Marketing experience to the ASI team. Having a strong passion for make-up
application, she is certified in eyelash extension application, as well as airbrush make-up and continues to
provide services for weddings in the Capital District.
Nicole Gallerie (Instructor)
Nicole is a graduate of the Aesthetic Science Institute. She holds dual licenses from NYS in both Esthetics and
Massage Therapy bringing over 8 years experience to her classroom. Nicole is also certified in Paramedical
Esthetics and is a Laser Technician. She teaches the FT class as well as multiple Continuing Education classes.
Andrea Gregaydis (Instructor)
Andrea is a graduate of the Aesthetic Science Institute and has been a practicing Esthetician and Nail
Technician since 2007. She has worked for several spas in the Saratoga/North Greenbush area. Andrea teaches
both esthetic and nail specialty classes, as well as a variety of continuing education classes.
Deborah Kenyon (Instructor)
Deb is a graduate of the Aesthetic Science Institute. She is a NYS Licensed Esthetician, a Certified Paramedical
Esthetician and holds 2 laser certifications. She brings over 30 years experience as an Electrologist as well as
being a business owner.

The Aesthetic Science Institute opened in 2003, and was expanded in 2005 to a 5000 square foot facility. This
location features three classrooms, one esthetics clinic with a body treatment room, waxing clinic, make-up
studio, student lounge, employee lounge, laundry room and four bathrooms.
The Latham location is a ground level facility in a professional/retail area with ample parking and easy access
from all major highways.

includes practical time in the public clinic in which students perform services.
Teaching methods used to present theory and practical include; verbal and hands on instruction, written
material, audio/video material, as well as various activities such as games and hands on projects to further the
educational process.
This program includes a designated time dedicated to business practices, development and professional
expectations.
Students are evaluated by taking a written examination and/or a practical examination as well as having a
minimum number of hours before performing clinic duties. Written examinations are given at the completion of

taught in the course.

Paramedical Esthetics
Approved by the New York State Department of Education, this specialized curriculum is designed
to prepare the professional esthetician for working in the medical environment.
This very intense course contains key information that covers patient documentation, medical procedures,
medications, contraindications, as well as microdermabrasion, chemical peels, and pre/post operative care.
A supplemental introductory workbook is required for completion BEFORE starting the program.
All information will be released upon enrollment.
Completion of the 600-hours esthetics curriculum or a New York State esthetics license is a mandatory prerequisite.

Become a laser certified specialist! This one week, hands on, intense training program will give you
everything you need to know to knowledgeably and confidently perform laser consultations and
procedures. The course covers in detail skin physiology, disorders and diseases, client selection and

The Aesthetic Science Institute Tuition Refund Terms
Tuition Refund
A student, or legal guardian, who cancels within 7 days of signing the enrollment agreement but before
instruction begins, or not accepted for enrollment shall receive all monies returned with the exception of the
non-refundable application fee. Any monies due a refund shall be made within 45 days of cancellation or
withdrawal. The official cancellations or withdrawal date will be determined by the postmark on written
notification, or the date said notification is delivered to the school administrator in person.
In the event that a student on an approved leave of absence does not return or is expelled, the date of withdrawal
shall be the earlier of the date of expiration of the leave of absence or the date the student notifies the institution
that the student will not be returning.
Any monies due a student who unofficially withdrawals shall be refunded within 45 days of a determination by
the institution that the student has withdrawn without notifying the institution, this shall occur no more than 30
days from the last day of attendance. The school may keep all fees for non-refundable enrollment,
textbooks/uniforms or kits accepted. Unofficial withdrawls are determined by the last date of attendance which
is monitored by daily attendance.
Refund calculations are based upon scheduled, not actual, hours.
Refund Policy applies to all terminations, by either party, including student decision, course or program cancellation, nonacceptance or school closure.
A. A student who cancels within 7 days of signing the enrollment agreement but before instruction begins
receives all monies returned with the exception of the non-refundable application fee.
B. Thereafter, a student will be liable for
1. the non-refundable application fee plus
2. the cost of any textbooks or supplies accepted plus
3. tuition liability as of the student's last date of physical attendance. Tuition liability is divided by the number
of quarters in the program. Total tuition liability is limited to the quarter during which the student withdrew or
was terminated, and any previous quarters completed.

Failure to comply will result in collections by The Aesthetic Science Institute collection agencies, lawyers, or
any third party representative of the institution. Collections procedures reflect good taste and sound, ethical
business practices.
Refund Policy
The refund policy is based on the number of hours scheduled at the time that instruction is terminated. Liability
is calculated as of the student’s last day of attendance.
Obtaining Tuition Refund
In the event that a refund becomes necessary a “Refund Request” form should be filled out and issued to the
Director of the Aesthetic Science Institute. The request will be reviewed and answered within 24 hours.
Approved refunds will be processed within 30 business days. “The failure of the student to notify the director in
writing of withdrawal may delay the refund of tuition due pursuant to Section 5002 of the Education Law”.

The Aesthetic Science Institute Policies
Enrollment Policy and Regulations
Enrollment dates are based on completion of a required number of hours. Therefore, they vary on actual
starting day within each designated enrollment month. Potential students must hold a valid high school diploma
or GED and be 17-years of age or older upon entrance into the Aesthetic Science Institute. A prospective
student must display a genuine desire to become part of a learning atmosphere with the ability and aptitude to
succeed in the classroom.
Leave of Absence Policy
Any interruption of program time is discouraged. In certain emergency situations, if an interruption is
unavoidable a leave of absence shall be granted and will extend contract period and maximum time frame, by
the number of days taken during the leave of absence. Only one leave of absence will be granted during the
time that a student is enrolled and shall not exceed thirty class days. If a student takes a leave at any time during
the program, they shall be responsible for making up all class time, tests, assignments and quizzes and
homework missed during their leave prior to graduation. Accumulated hours and progress status will remain on
file for a period of 24 months, upon returning to the school the student needs to be evaluated and placed at the
appropriate level of the program. After 24 months any accumulated hours will be lost and must be taken over.
Lost or Missed Hours
Given hours are mandated by the State of New York, and by the Aesthetic Science Institute. Accumulation of
daily hours will be maintained and must be made up in order to complete the educational program and be
eligible for participating in the state exam. In addition to hours, all tests, quizzes, assignments and home-work
must also be made up prior to graduation.
A student is permitted to make up thirty esthetic, twelve nail specialty and ten waxing clock hours of excused or
unexcused absences at no additional cost.
Handicapped Access
The School and its facilities are adequately equipped to meet the needs of handicapped students and individuals
in need of the assistance of a wheelchair or crutches.
Grading and Evaluation
New York State requires completion of all required hours, a complete physical, application fee of $40.00, a
$15.00 NYS practical exam fee; and a pass rate on State board written and practical examinations of 70%/ for
state licensure.
Students will receive a variety of grades while attending classes. All test grades will be recorded as a
percentage of correct, 70% is considered a passing grade. Any grade below 70% will be equally recorded and
may not be retaken. An overall 70% is required in order to pass the enrolled course. An average score that falls
below 70% may result in a probationary period and possible dismissal.
Each curriculum also has a required amount of practical services that must be completed prior to graduation.
Ample time is given to achieve these requirements.
Students who complete with a grade point average of 90% or above will receive a gold seal of achievement on
their diploma.

Program or Course Cancellation Policy
If a program or course is canceled subsequent to a student’s enrollment, and before instruction in the program or
course has begun, the school shall at its option: Provide a FULL REFUND of all monies paid.
School Closure Policy
If the school closes permanently and ceases to offer instruction after students have enrolled, or if a program is
canceled after students have enrolled and instruction has begun, The Aesthetic Science Institute will make
arrangements for students in which the arrangements for the teach-out is to be per-formed, by an institution in
the same geographic area as the original school and will provide the program or course; or shall receive a prorated refund of tuition. A list of all enrolled students at the time of closure, including the amount of pro-stated
refund,will be submitted to NACCAS.
Complaint procedure
If a student has a suggestion or a complaint they are urged to contact their instructor. If they are not satisfied
with the results they are urged to contact the director of the Aesthetic Science Institute. Complaints should be
addressed in writing to the Director in order to be kept on file. You may file a complaint with the New York
State Education Department.
Policy on Accusation of Breach of Policies and Procedures
In the event of breach of policy and procedure accusation the accusee must agree to provide details, sign a
statement and pursue the issue. If accusee does not agree, the accusation is deemed unfounded. If agreed, the
school will proceed with an internal investigation and accuser may be suspended for three daas. If found valid,
appropriate authorities will be notified. If unfounded accuse returns to position with no loss of hours. If found
valid accuse will be dismissed from position at The Aesthetic Science Institute.
Discrimination Policy
The Aesthetics Science Institute is an equal opportunity learning facility we do not discriminate based on sex,

Financial Assistance
Monthly payment plans are available with payment of 50% of tuition of a given curriculum. Students must be
aware that available financial options are private loans, payment options and Title IV aid if qualified. Students
are therefore responsible for repayment of such loans regardless of academic success. For more information

Student Conduct and Dismissal
The Aesthetic Science Institute has a very high level of expectations for its students and instructors. As a
representation of the profession that we teach, it is imperative that professional standards and expectations be
set and maintained upon entrance into the educational environment. Therefore the Aesthetic Science Institute
has a set policy for all students that must be read and signed prior to enrollment.

Students are expected to behave in a manner such that no dishonor is brought upon the Aesthetic Science
Institute or their chosen profession.
A student may be subject to warning, probation, suspension or dismissal for failure to comply with any of the
following standards:

Attendance
Your attendance to class is as important as your attendance to work. Students are expected to arrive prior to
class time starting. In the event that a student will be absent from class, ASI MUST BE NOTIFIED before
classes begin in the morning of that day. Only five tardy arrivals and/or five early departures will be permitted.
Tardy arrivals and/or early departures will accumulate and will be deducted from your total hours. After the
fifth tardy arrival and/or fifth early departure students will be placed on probation for a period of 60 clock
hours. If tardy arrival and/or early departure continues, students may be dismissed from the school.
Students have committed to attending class based upon their chosen schedule, and are expected to be present at
each session, aside unforeseen circumstances. There is a $12.50 per esthetic hour fee for any hours over 30 that
are missed; and $10.00 per nail hour over 15 and $11.33 per wax hour over 10 as well as being placed on
probation. An excess of 60 esthetic hours, 30 nail specialty hours and 15 waxing hours may result in dismissal
from the school.
In the event of a maximum of 7 day non-attendance/contact; The Aesthetic Science Institute will attempt
contact via e-mail, mail or telephone to determine status. If confirmation of status is not determined by day 14
of non-attendance the student will be dismissed form the program.
Make-up Hours
All missed hours must be completed within 2 weeks following scheduled graduation with the regular scheduled
program. Make-up hours are scheduled in 4 hour increments. Hours must be made up before a certificate is
awarded.
A student is permitted to make up 30 esthetic, 15 Nail Specialty and 10 Waxing clock hours of excused or
unexcused absences at no additional cost. Beyond thirty hours a fee of $12.50 per esthetic hour will be charged;
$10.00 per nail hour over 15 and $11.33 per wax hour over 10.
Payment
Students are expected to fulfill their agreed upon payment plan for tuition. Tuition must be paid in full before a
certificate is granted. Half of tuition is due prior to the first day of class in order to begin.

Your presentation is the first impression that a future client or employer will have of you. Students are expected
to always present a crisp, professional image.

Artificial nails and nail polish are not permitted for esthetic and waxing students.
Facial piercing may not be worn during school hours and should be removed prior to entering the school.

• Uniform pants may not be rolled up.
You represent the school when wearing your uniform; please remember that when out in public. Uniform must
be covered if outside smoking, wearing facial piercing or otherwise behaving in an unprofessional manner.
Smoking
Smoking is not permitted in the school, around the entryways or on the front walk way. Students who smell of
smoke when returning after a break will not be permitted to work on clients in the clinic.
Gum Chewing
Gum chewing is not permitted in school clinic.
Phone Calls and Cell Phones
Use of the school phone is available for emergency purposes. Cell phones are not permitted in the classroom,
but may be used during lunch and breaks in the student lounge. Students should not utilize their cell phones in
classrooms or hallways.
Sexual Misconduct
Sexual misconduct of any kind is not permitted.
Meals and Beverages
A student lounge is provided for lunches and breaks. Food is not permitted in the classrooms or the clinic areas
at any time. However, beverages are permitted in the classroom during teaching hours.
Campus Crime Statistics & Security Information
A handout detailing campus crime statistics is provided at the time of enrollment and is also made available
upon request from the school Director.
Late Payment Fee
If an installation payment is late, a late charge in the amount of 10% of the payment due will be added to the
payment. If a scheduled payment is not received within three business days of the original due date, future
attendance will not be permitted until payment is received.
Returned Checks
If a tuition payment is made with a personal check and the check is dishonored at the payer’s bank, the student
is subject to a returned check fee of $30.00.
Record Disclosure and Information Release
We are required by NY State Law to maintain accurate records of our students even after they've completed
their course work with us. By providing your email on this form, you agree to allow us to communicate with
you via email as needed in order to obtain necessary information. This communication may, from time to time,
include surveys which we are required to have you complete in order to maintain accurate records.

Policy on Releasing Students Information
Any request for releasing information on an individual student must be made by the student or parents of
dependent minors by filling out an advisement/referral form through the schools director. All students records
are made available to the accrediting agency. Records will be released to a third party ONLY with written
consent of the student. The Aesthetic Science Institute complies with all FERPA/The Family Education Rights
and Privacy Act. A release of information form must be completed with each request.
Placement and Add’l Services Information
While placement service may be provided, it is understood that the school cannot promise or guarantee
employment to any student or graduate. Students will complete an actual job interview in which they are
provided feedback. Resumes and cover letters will also be completed. A job placement information site is
available to students and graduates in the school student lounge and all job postings are placed on the school
web site.
Career Counseling
Career counseling is stressed throughout the course in the areas of personal grooming and hygiene, and good
posture. Also stressed throughout the course is communication with others both verbal and non-verbal. Areas
that are discussed both in class and on a one-to-one basis are the different specialized fields; one may go into,
such as an esthetician, nail technician or waxing specialist in a spa or salon; training, sales and education for a
product manufacturer or manager technician
Physical Demands
There are many factors to consider when deciding upon choosing an esthetics career, such as physical health.
Estheticians usually work on an appointment basis, and as a clientele builds, days may become busy and hectic.
Not only are you working with your hands and arms, but may be sitting or standing in the same position for
great lengths of time.
Conflicting Information
The Aesthetic Science Institute understands that all conflicting information must be resolved before any Title
IV funds can be disbursed. Students with conflicting information in their files or paperwork may be selected for
verification by the school or its servicer in order to resolve the information in question.
Code of Conduct
The School is committed to ensuring the integrity of its employees and students with respect to all aspects of its
schools and operations. Compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, company policies & procedures, and
performance of duties according to the highest standards of honesty and integrity, is expected of all employees.
Employees assisting students in the financial aid process are required to affirm that they will 1) be ethical and
conduct themselves with integrity, 2) avoid any conflicts of interest and comply with all Codes of Conduct
required by the school, 3) provide prospective and enrolled students with accurate and complete financial aid
and policy information, 4) keep student information confidential and comply with the Family Educational
Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and 5) comply with federal and state laws and regulations, accreditor rules,
and school policies & procedures.

Voter Registration
The school encourages its students to be registered voters and to exercise their right to vote. Students can
register to vote in New York at www.rockthevote.com, at www.londistancevoter.org, or at
www.sos.wa.gov/elections.
Vaccination Policy
While The Aesthetic Science Institute encourages its students to lead happy healthy lifestyles and stay disease
free it does not have any specific vaccination policy. Vaccinations are not a requirement to be licensed in the
State of New York.
Student Services, Counseling and Housing
The school conducts an orientation program on the first day of class which provides information about the
instructional programs, goals of each course, policies affecting students and services available to students.
Students have access to advising from members of the school staff regarding their program of study, progress,
financial affairs, housing, placement or other areas in which the student may need assistance including referral
to professional assistance when necessary. Students whose progress in the course is unsatisfactory are advised
and provided any additional assistance available. When requested, the school may provide assistance and
advisement in acquiring adequate housing facilities. A student requiring housing assistance should contact the
school prior to enrollment. Housing is not provided by the school.
Job Demand In Esthetic/Related Fields
Since 1990, NACCAS has commissioned several Job Demand Surveys, to provide quantitative data on
cosmetology careers, earnings potential, and job openings. The most recent survey, completed in May 2007,
compiles data from 6,203 salons responding to a national survey. The survey indicates that the demand for well
trained professionals in the beauty industry outstrips the supply. The NACCAS Survey results indicate that
salons in New York plan to hire 22,803 new employees in the next twelve months. The average annual salary
for a salon professional in New York is $36,452. This amount does not include tips and gratuities. Nationally,
the average salon professional’s salary is $35,973. As of January 2007, there were 129,013 professionals
employed at New York’s 23,741 salons. 71% of salons in the state are employer-owned, and 5% are boothrental salons. The other 24% are a combination of the two. 63% of New York salons are classified by their
owners as full-service salons; 18% are listed as haircutting salons. Barbershops make up 3% of the total.
Nationally, 58% of salons are listed as full-service, meaning that Washington has a higher percentage of
specialized establishments.

Policy On Evaluating The Validity Of High School Diplomas
Regulation 34 CFR 668.16 (p) requires Title IV schools to establish policies and procedures to confirm the
authenticity of high school diplomas in the event that the school or the Secretary of the U.S. Department of
Education has reason to question the validity of a student’s high school diploma.
The Aesthetic Science Institute may require further documentation in the form of a certified copy of final high
school transcripts for the high school in question or information from a company that evaluates foreign
diplomas (in the case of a foreign diploma). Student self-certification is NOT considered sufficient proof of
validity.
In addition to checking online for further information about the school issuing the diploma and its accreditation,
the school may also contact the Department of Education in the state in which the diploma was issued to
determine if the school listed on the diploma is on the state list of recognized schools.
The school maintains a list of known diploma mills for the admissions staff to check when receiving a diploma
from an unknown and questionable source. It is understood that this list may not be all inclusive as there are
hundreds of diploma mills some known and some not currently known. It is also understood that the list of
schools in the FAFSA drop down box online also may not be all inclusive.
The school makes every reasonable effort to verify the validity of questionable high school diplomas.
Students with Disabilities Policy
The Aesthetic Science Institute complies with the Americans With Disabilities Act of 1990; the school facility
is wheelchair accessible. The Aesthetic Science Institute does not offer a Comprehensive Transition
Postsecondary Program for students with intellectual disabilities.
Cost of Attendance Budgets (COA)
In order to determine a student’s level of loan funding, the Department of Education requires us to develop
annual cost of attendance budgets. These budgets include an average allowance for room and board,
transportation, miscellaneous, loan fees and if applicable child care and expenses related to disability. The

The school actively supports the prevention of drug abuse. Upon enrollment, students are provided the school’s
policy on drug and alcohol abuse. A list of agencies and counselors is also available on the state website for
personal assistance and is available to any student requesting assistance.

OSHA Requirements
In compliance with United States Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration
requirements, the school advises its students of the chemicals used in cosmetology/related training. During the
course work the student learns about the importance of safety in the work place and how to use and follow the
Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for chemicals used in cosmetology or related training. During each unit of
study, students are apprised of the various chemicals used and safe practices that apply. A complete file
containing Material Safety Data Sheets for the chemicals used is available in the administrative office. The
school endeavors to facilitate a safe environment for staff and students by teaching the proper and safe use of
equipment, tools, and products. The school does not assume responsibility for injuries resulting from improper
or unsafe use of equipment, tools, or products.
Policy for Safeguarding Student Information
The Aesthetic Science Institute is committed to implementing and maintaining a comprehensive information
security program, to maintain and safeguard your non-public personal information against damage or loss. The
policy covers all student records in whatever form (hard copy, electronic).
The school Director/administrator shall be responsible to coordinate the school’s information security
program. The Director shall, at least once every 3 years, assess foreseeable internal and external risks to the
security, confidentiality, and integrity of student information that could result in the unauthorized disclosure,
misuse, alteration, destruction or other compromise of the information. The risk assessment shall cover every
relevant area of school operations, including employee training & management, network & software design,
information processing, storage, transmission and disposal, and ways to detect, prevent and respond to attacks,
intrusions, or other system failures. The Director shall design and implement safeguards to control identified
risks and shall monitor the effectiveness of them, recommending changes when warranted.
Records for prospective students who are not accepted or who do not enroll in the school will be held for
3 months then destroyed in a secure manner. Records of enrolled students shall be maintained in accordance
with federal and state law and accreditation requirements. Students shall receive notice of this policy at the
time they enroll.
The Aesthetic Science Institute shall only enter into servicing agreements with service providers who also
maintain appropriate safeguards for customers’ non-public personal information.
Copyright Laws
Copyright infringement is the act of exercising, without permission or legal authority, one or more of the
exclusive rights granted to the copyright owner under section 106 of the Copyright Act (Title 17 of the United
States Code). These rights include the right to reproduce or distribute a copyrighted work. In the file-sharing
context, downloading or uploading substantial parts of a copyrighted work without authority constitutes an
infringement. Penalties for copyright infringement include civil and criminal penalties. In general, anyone found
liable for civil copyright infringement may be ordered to pay either actual damages or “statutory” damages
affixed at not less than $750 and not more than $30,000 per work infringed. For “willful” infringement, a court
may award up to $150,000 per work infringed. A court can, in its discretion, also assess costs and attorneys’

Satisfactory Academic Progress
Evaluation Periods
Students, in all programs are evaluated, and receive a copy, for Satisfactory Academic Progress as follows:

Evaluations will determine if the student has met the minimum requirements for satisfactory academic progress.
The evaluation ensures that students have opportunities to meet both the attendance and academic progress
requirements by midpoint in the course.
Attendance Progress Evaluations
Students are required to attend a minimum of 90% of the hours possible based on the applicable attendance
schedule in order to be considered maintaining satisfactory attendance progress. Evaluations are conducted at
the end of each evaluation period to determine if the student has met the minimum requirements. Evaluations
are based on the cumulative attendance percentage as of the last day of the month of the evaluation period. The
attendance percentage is determined by dividing the total hours accrued by the total number of hours scheduled.
The students start month in school will be counted as the first month of the evaluation period. For partial
months, scheduled hours will be calculated by multiplying the number of scheduled days by the number of
hours scheduled each day. At the end of each evaluating period, the school will determine if the student has
maintained at least 90% cumulative attendance since the beginning of the course which indicated that, given the
same attendance rate, the student will graduate within the maximum time frame allowed.
Determination of Progress Status
Students meeting the minimum requirements for academics and attendance at the evaluation point are
considered to be making satisfactory progress until the next scheduled evaluation. In order for a student to be
considered making satisfactory academic progress as of course midpoint, the student must meet both attendance
and academic requirements on at least one evaluation by midpoint of the course.
Academic Progress Evaluations
The qualitative element used to determine academic progress is a reasonable system of grades as determined by
assigned academic learning. Students are assigned academic learning and a minimum number of practical
experiences. Academic learning is evaluated after each unit of study. Practical assignments are evaluated as
completed and counted toward course completion only when rated as satisfactory or better (the computer
system will reflect completion of the practical assignment as a 100% rating). If the performance does not meet
satisfactory requirements, it is not counted and the performance must be repeated. At least two comprehensive
practical skills evaluations will be conducted during the course of study. Practical skills are evaluated according
to the text procedures and set forth in practical skills evaluation criteria adopted by the school. Students must
maintain a written grade average of 70% to maintain satisfactory academic progress; and pass a FINAL written
and practical exam prior to graduation. Missed tests may only be made up with an excused medical note.

During probation students are not considered to be making satisfactory progress unless an appeal has been
granted. If at the end of the probationary period, the student has still not met both the attendance and academic
requirements, he/she will be determined as NOT making satisfactory academic progress and, if applicable,
students will not be deemed eligible to receive Title IV funds* as well as possible dismissal from the program.
If the institution determines that SAP can be achieved by the end of the probationary period, Title IV funds may
be retained. A specific plan of action will be determined. In this situation, students will be notified of status and
possible loss of Title IV funds.
Re-Establishment of Satisfactory Academic Progress
Students may re-establish satisfactory academic progress and Title IV aid, as applicable, by meeting minimum
attendance and academic requirements by the end of the probationary period.

Noncredit and Remedial Courses
Noncredit and remedial courses do not apply to this institution. Therefore, these items have no effect upon the
schools satisfactory progress standards.
Interruptions, Course Incompletes, Withdrawals
If enrollment is temporarily interrupted for a Leave of Absence, the student will return to school in the same
progress status as prior to the leave of absence. Hours elapsed during a leave of absence will extend the
student’s contract period by the same number of days taken in the leave of absence and will not be included in
the student’s cumulative attendance percentage calculation. Students who withdrawal prior to completion of the
course and wish to re-enroll will return in the same satisfactory academic progress status as the time of the
withdrawal.
Appeal Procedure
If a student is determined to not be making satisfactory academic progress, the student may appeal the
determination at the time of negative progress determination. The student must submit a written appeal to the
school on the designated form with supporting documentation of the reasons why the determination should be
reversed, such as: death of a relative, an injury or illness of the student, or other allowable special
circumstances.. Appeal must include documentation supporting non compliance with SAP and changes in the
students situation to allow them to meet SAP at the next evaluation period.
Appeal documents will be reviewed and a decision will be made and reported to the student within 30 calendar
days. The appeal, decision documents and academic plan will be retained in the student file. If the student
prevails upon appeal, the satisfactory academic progress determination will be reversed and federal financial aid
will be reinstated, if applicable.
Graduation Requirements
The graduation requirements for all courses are as follows: 1) Completed the required hours of training within
the maximum time frame allowed. 2) Maintain satisfactory progress requirements per the criteria of the
Satisfactory Progress Policy. 3) Take a final examination on practical procedures, and a final written
examination-- having a score of not less than 70 %. 4) Fulfill all financial obligations to the school. 5)
Completion of an exit interview and required exit paperwork. UPON GRADUATION A DIPLOMA WILL BE
AWARDED. Certification of hours will not be provided until all tuition charges have been paid in full.
Termination/Withdrawl
The school may terminate a student prior to the completion of their program for one or more of the following:
1) Insufficient academic progress. 2) Not fulfilling financial obligations to the school. 3) Failure to comply
with the rules and regulations of the school. 4) Failure to comply with the Tardy/Attendance policy of the
school. 5) Insubordination. 6) after 10 consecutive school days of absence or 7) in the case of a leave of
absence on the documented date of return if the student does not return.
Previously Earned Credits
The Aesthetic Science Institute does not accept clock hours or transfer credits from other institutions.
Re-Entry Policy
In the event that a student is dismissed or willingly discontinues a program at The Aesthetic Science Institute they must
re-apply, as a new student starting at the beginning of the program. Previous hours earned will not be applied.

* Your instructor is responsible for implementation of the school’s satisfactory progress policy. The Aesthetic
Science Institute determines if a student is making satisfactory progress according to policy with clinic, testing,
and attendance requirements
Federal Assistance Programs
The school is approved as an eligible institution by the U. S. Department of Education to participate in Title IV
grant and loan programs. The packaging of financial assistance is determined according to guidelines set by the
US Department of Education. A variety of programs are available for students qualifying for assistance:
Federal Grants:
Federal Pell Grant: Intended to be the basis of the financial aid package and may be combined with other aid to
meet the full cost of attendance. The Federal Pell Grant is a need based aid program in which an eligible
recipient does not have to repay the funds received.
Federal Student Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG): An additional grant available only to Pell eligible
students who meet the schools predetermined criteria. 75% of the award is contributed by the Federal
Government and the other 25% is contributed by the school.
Federal Direct Loan Program:
These are low interest loans for undergraduate and graduate students that are made available through the
Federal Government. This program includes the Federal Direct Subsidized, Federal Direct Unsubsidized and
Federal Direct Plus loans. There are grade level progressions and loan limits used for the administration of
these loans.
The following Direct Loans are made through the William D. Ford Federal Direct Loan (Direct Loan) Program,
which is administered by the U.S. Department of Education:
Federal Direct Subsidized Loan: This is a need-based-loan for which the Federal government subsidizes the
interest until repayment begins and during any period of deferment. This is a loan and recipients must begin
making payments at the end of their six-month grace period.
Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan: This is a non-need-based loan for which the Federal Government does not
pay the interest subsidy. Interest accrues during all periods. The recipient has the option to pay the interest or
to defer payment of the interest for the grace period. This is known as capitalization. This is a loan and
recipients must begin making payments at the end of their six-month grace period.
Federal Direct Plus Loan: This loan is available to parents of dependent undergraduate students to help pay for
the cost of the dependent’s education. Borrowers of PLUS Loans are required to undergo a credit check by the
lending institution. The definition of a “parent” for PLUS Loan eligibility is a student’s biological, adoptive or
step-parent in the event that person’s income would have been taken into consideration when calculating the
student’s expected family contribution (EFC). Interest is charged during all periods.

Entrance and Exit Counseling:
Students receiving Federal Direct Loans must complete a Student Loan Entrance Counseling prior to
disbursement of funds and a Student Loan Exit Counseling within 30 days of graduating or withdrawing from
school.
Title IV Credit Balances:
Tuition and fees are charged by academic year. Federal student aid is received by payment periods. Generally
there are two payment periods in a full academic year. When Title IV funds received for the academic year are
greater than the charges for the academic year, a credit balance is created on the student’s account. This credit
balance will be refunded to the student (or parent in the case of a Parent PLUS loan), within 14 calendar days of
the credit balance being created on the student’s account.
Verification
Students selected by the U.S. Department of Education for the process of verification are frequently required to
submit additional information and/or parents’ financial & household information to the finance office. The
verification procedures will be conducted as follows:
1. When selected by the U.S. Department of Education for the process of verification, the student must submit
all required documentation to the finance office within 10 days from the date the student is notified that the
additional documentation is needed for this process.
2. If the student does not provide all of the required documentation within the 10 day time frame, the student
will be required to make other payment arrangements until the documentation is received and the student’s
eligibility for federal student aid has been established.
Return of TitleIV Funds
The law specifies how a school must determine the amount of Title IV program assistance that a student earns if
he/she withdraws from school. The Title IV programs that are covered by this law are: Federal Pell Grants,
Academic Competitiveness Grants, National SMART Grants, TEACH Grants, Direct Student Loans, PLUS
Loans, Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOGs), and Federal Perkins Loans.
When a student withdraws during the payment period the amount of Title IV program assistance that he/she has
earned up to that point is determined by a specific formula. If the student received (or the school or parent
received on the student’s behalf) less assistance than the amount that the student earned, the student may be able
to receive those additional funds. If the student received more assistance than he/she earned, the excess funds
must be returned by the school and/or the student.
The amount of assistance that the student has earned is determined on a pro-rata basis. For example, if the
student completed 30% of the scheduled hours in their payment period, the student earns 30% of the assistance
he/she was originally scheduled to receive. Once the student has completed more than 60% of the scheduled
hours in his/her payment period, the student earns all the assistance that he/she was scheduled to receive for that
period.
If the student did not receive all of the funds that he/she earned, the student may be due a Post-withdrawal
disbursement. If the Post-withdrawal disbursement includes loan funds, the school must get the student’s

permission before it can disburse them. The student may choose to decline some or all of the loan funds so that
he/she doesn’t incur additional debt. The school may automatically use all or a portion of the Post-withdrawal
disbursement of grant funds for tuition, fees, and room and board charges (as contracted with the school). The
school needs the student’s permission to use the Post-withdrawal grant disbursement for all other school
charges. If the student does not give his/her permission (some schools ask for this when upon enrollment), the
student will be offered the funds. However, it may be in the student’s best interest to allow the school to keep
the funds to reduce his/her debt at the school.
There are some Title IV funds that the student was scheduled to receive that cannot be disbursed to him/her
upon withdrawal because of other eligibility requirements. For example, if the student is a first-time, first-year
undergraduate student and has not completed the first 30 days of the program before withdrawal, the student
will not receive any Direct loan funds that they would have received had they remained enrolled past the 30th
day. If the student receives (or the school or parent receives on their behalf) excess Title IV program funds that
must be returned, the school must return a portion of the excess equal to the lesser of: the institutional charges
multiplied by the unearned percentage of the student’s funds, or the entire amount of excess funds. The school
must return this amount even if it didn’t keep this amount of the student’s Title IV program funds. If the school
is not required to return all of the excess funds, the student must return the remaining amount. Any loan funds
that the student must return, he/she (or the parent for a PLUS Loan) repay in accordance with the terms of the
promissory note. That is, the student makes scheduled payments to the holder of the loan over a period of time.
Any amount of unearned grant funds that the student must return is called an overpayment. The maximum
amount of a grant overpayment that must be repaid is half of the grant funds the student received or were
scheduled to receive. The student must make arrangements with the school or the Department of Education to
return the unearned grant funds.
The requirements for Title IV program funds when a student withdraws are separate from any Institutional

unpaid institutional charges. The school may also charge for any Title IV program funds that the school was
required to return.
If a student has questions about his/her Title IV program funds, he/she can call the Federal Student Aid
Information Center at 1-800-4-FEDAID (1-800-433-3243). TTY users may call 1-800-730-8913. Information is
also available on Student Aid on the Web at www.studentaid.ed.gov.
3. The finance office reserves the right to make exceptions to the policy stated above on a case by case basis
for extenuating circumstances.
The finance office will notify the student of any changes to their financial aid award resulting from corrections
made due to the verification process. An adjustment will be made to the student’s financial aid award as
required by federal regulations and an addendum to the existing award letter or a new award letter will be
issued.
