The Yuma Alumni Club of the University of Arizona will be awarding several scholarships for students first registering at
the U of A Tucson main campus during the 2015-2016 academic year. Scholarships are open to all without regard to race,
ethnicity, national origin or other protected categories, in compliance with the University’s Non-Discrimination Policy
(http://equity.arizona.edu/policies). The scholarship selection committee adheres to these University policies.
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS ARE DUE BY Jan. 16, 2015- NO LATE OR INCOMPLETE PACKETS WILL
BE CONSIDERED.
Eligibility requirements for these scholarships are either:
1. 2015 graduate of a Yuma area high school with cumulative unweighted grade point average (Cum. GPA) of 3.50 or
better OR
2. Yuma area resident who has attended Arizona Western College after graduating from a Yuma area high school and
has earned a cumulative grade point average (Cum. GPA) of 3.00 or better after a minimum of 12 credit hours at
AWC and will be enrolling full-time at UA for the first time Fall 2015
Applications will be judged on merit, not financial need. These scholarships range in value from $500-$3000.
Recipients will be able to accept this scholarship as well as any others received by other clubs, organizations or the
University. Each scholarship recipient is required to complete at least 12 semester hours with a GPA of 2.5 or better to
receive second semester funds. Scholarship funds will be administered by the UA Alumni Association and UA
scholarship offices. Within 2 weeks of packet deadline, an email will be sent to you confirming receipt of your completed
scholarship application packet by the Scholarship Committee. All application packets will be screened. Finalists will be
scheduled for a personal interview by the Yuma Alumni Scholarship Committee. You will receive an email by late March
indicating whether you are being invited for a personal interview or have been eliminated from the pool of applicants. If
you receive a scholarship you are required to attend the Yuma Alumni Club annual Scholarship BBQ in late April and the
UA Alumni Association scholarship recognition dinner in September to receive your scholarship award.
Your application packet must be submitted no later than Jan. 16, 2015 and include the following in this order:
1. Application Form- Do not include a cover page or picture
2. Resume -your scholastic achievements, extracurricular activities, honors, work experience, community service, and any
other information you deem important (specific instructions on next page)
3. Personal essay- No more than 500 words. You are encouraged to be personal and write about things that are important
to you, including the following:
 major field of study and why (what interests and experiences led to your choice)
 description of your strengths, character, personality traits
 an experience you’ve had in your life that you believe will help you be successful
4. Unofficial transcript which includes Fall 2014 grades. (HS students: If you've taken college courses, also include all
unofficial college transcripts)(AWC students: unofficial high school plus all college transcripts)
5. Reference Request forms (3 required) completed by 3 different adults you are not related to: teachers, counselors,
employers, etc. (must be in sealed envelope)
6. Confidential Rating Sheet (MUST BE in sealed and signed envelope)
7. Email address- all notifications will be by email. Make sure this is an email you check regularly.
Send an email to Gay Thrower when you submit your packet. In the subject line of email, list your name, your
school and date packet was submitted to your counselor or AWC financial aid office.
