Kent-Meridian High School Career Day
What: Kent-Meridian High School Career Day
When: This Thursday, April 24, from 7:30AM to 2:10PM
Why: Career Day is a day that provides our students with an opportunity to explore post high school careers by
listening to seminars in selected fields of interest and meeting with local employers representing many different
occupations.
Prior to the Event
On Wednesday, April 23, Career Day programs will be distributed to your 6th period class along with
attendance roster sheets, evaluation sheets, and pages 27, 28, 31& 32 of the Culminating Project
Handbook. The programs will have a list of presenters offering information through small seminars. In each
seminar, employer-presenters provide students with information on education and skills needed for various
career positions within their organizations. Presenters discuss their own level of education, the skills they used
regularly on the job, and how their typical work day looked. Some seminars are panel discussions in which
students hear different perspectives on the same career.
Have students in your 6th period class:
a) look at the program near the end of the period
b) take all pages/forms received in the program home and read through the presenter/career options
c) based on interest, select four different seminars to attend and be prepared to confirm selection choices
during the next advisory on the following morning
d) review the culminating project forms for information on how to earn the completion of the job shadow
or career interview
Each teacher should:
a) Tidy up their classroom.
b) Make sure the classroom computer and projector are ready for the presenter to use.
c) If there is more than one presenter, put a table or desk near the front of the room for handouts.
d) Wear professional business attire on Career Day.
On the Day of the Event
Each teacher should:
a) Report to the PAC for the AM staff meeting
b) Print Advisory attendance roster to take attendance for all students that enter during the three
advisory portions of the day (AM, lunch, PM). Students are expected to sign their names in print on
the attendance roster. If a student is here for the last advisory of the day, mark them as present for
the day. Take a look at the attached old advisory lunch schedule. If you have first lunch, tell your
students during the morning advisory to go directly from session 3 to lunch and back to your
advisory.
c) After the bell, take your Advisory attendance
d) Review behavior expectations during the sessions (e.g. respect and courtesy at all times) and hold
students accountable for abiding by classroom and building expectations. Call Code Blue if needed.
e) Encourage students to jot down additional questions to ask at each seminar and take notes for
evaluation purposes after session 4.
f) Meet and greet the Presenter/Panelists
g) Assist presenter with technical assistance with the Smart Board, PowerPoint, etc. If needed, Contact
Wendy S. and Kit at x4163, x4026, or x4039.

so that students can select alternate choices. Students should not be allowed to sit anywhere other
