PORTFOLIO SUMMATIVE ASSIGNMENT
OVERALL EXPECTATIONS:
PKV.01 · explain how their aspirations, competencies, talents, temperaments, and characteristics may affect their interactions with
others;
PKV.02 · identify criteria for assessing the effectiveness of individuals in leadership and peer support roles and use these criteria
to assess their own leadership and peer support capabilities;
PKV.03 · identify and effectively use the personal management skills and characteristics required to succeed in leadership and
peer support roles;
PKV.04 · demonstrate an understanding of effective learning strategies for use in tutoring and mentoring roles;
PKV.05 · demonstrate an understanding of barriers to effective learning and of school and community resources available to
address these barriers.
IKV.02 · demonstrate an understanding of and use theories and strategies related to effective communication;
IKV.03 · demonstrate an understanding of theories and strategies related to leadership and group dynamics and use these to help
individuals and diverse groups achieve their goals;

Over the semester, you have been required to complete various reflection pieces
pertaining to your personal experiences in your leadership placement. The following five
reflection components are as follows:
PORTFOLIO REFLECTION #1
Due: Tuesday, October 21st, 2008
Examine the following questions and write a response that reflects your experiences thus
far in your placement.
1. What were your expectations prior to beginning your placement? Has your placement
met, disappointed, or exceeded these previous expectations?
2. Outline 3 of the best things about your placement.
3. Outline 3 of the worst things about your placement.
4. Reflect on your experiences and explain how you have demonstrated leadership within
your leadership placement.
5. What are 3 goals you wish to attain in your placement in the next two weeks? How do
you plan on sharing them with your leadership placement teacher?
PORFOLIO REFLECTION #2
Due: Wednesday, November 5th, 2008
As part of a ‘boost’ to share your goals with your leadership placement teacher, you are
to design an activity and rational to propose to your placement teacher. This activity
should be relevant to the course you are involved with.
In this reflection you must complete the following:
___ Have a creative title
___ Provide a rationale (a justification of why this activity would be beneficial)
___ Outline activity STEP BY STEP
___ Provide a list of materials needed in order to successfully complete this activity.
PORTFOLIO REFLECTION #3
Due: Wednesday, November 26th, 2008
As a class, we came up with various strategies outlining how to actively communicate.
The following points were made:

 Give Verbal Encouragement
 Paraphrase Speaker’s Word
In your own experiences, please write a reflection on the following questions:
1. Have you ever tried to talk to someone you knew wasn’t listening to you?
2. How did this make you feel?
3. What do YOU do to make sure someone knows that YOU are listening to them?
4. In your placement, how is YOUR voice heard? In your opinion, is this effective or
ineffective?
PORTFOLIO REFLECTION #4
Due: Wednesday, December 10th, 2008
In one page, discuss how you have evolved as a leader in your placement. Outline all of
the things that you do and provide a wish list of what you would like to accomplish in the
next couple of weeks.
PORTFOLIO REFLECTION #5
Due: Week of January 5th-9th, 2009
Design an individual creative component that best describes your experiences in your
leadership placement with a one page explanation. This is purely individual and you
have the creative license to complete whatever you wish.

A Storyboard/Comic Strip
