Willamette University Alumni Citations
Thank you for your interest in nominating someone for one of our alumni awards.
Please use the information and guidelines below to facilitate your submission.
Overview of Awards
Distinguished Alumni Citation
Recognizes Willamette graduates who, in professional achievement and service to their communities, represent
the university in an exemplary manner by embodying its highest ideals as exemplified in our motto “Not Unto
Ourselves Alone Are We Born.”
Lestle J. Sparks Medallion
Recognizes graduates whose lifetime loyalty and service to Willamette reflect the ideals of one of the
university’s most devoted alumni, Lestle J. Sparks ’19.
Young Alumni Leadership Award
Recognizes graduates from the past 10 years for outstanding leadership in their vocation, community service and
service to the university.





Nomination Process
All alumni, staff and friends of the university are welcome to submit nominations.
Nominations should include a description, written by the nominator, of why the nominee warrants
recognition and how s/he has embodied the priorities of the award(s).
Nominations may include supporting materials, such as a resume, articles or other printed material, in
support of a nominee’s eligibility. Supporting materials should not exceed three printed pages.
Nomination materials are held for three years; if a candidate is nominated but does not receive the
award, the only items needed for re-nomination within this window of time are a) a new nomination
form, and b) any relevant information updates.
The Office of Alumni Relations, reachable at alumni@willamette.edu or 503-375-5304, manages
nominations and the awarding process.
Selection
The Alumni Citation Award Committee, comprised of members of the Willamette University Alumni
Association Board of Directors and university staff, reviews all submissions and makes final selections for each
year’s awards.

Nomination forms should be completed with concision and concrete detail. Selection is based on information
received. Materials cannot be returned. Multiple nominations of the same individual are allowed. Awards will
be presented each spring and nominations should be submitted by December 31 for consideration for the
following spring. All nominees will be notified regardless of final selection.
