Insert for RA 37 IMPORTANT - Notification of 450-470MHz (UHF2) band re-alignment Before you apply for your new licence it is important that you are aware that the Radiocommunications Agency is embarking on a major programme of frequency re-alignment in the 450-470MHz band (UHF2). Why are we re-aligning the 450-470MHz band? Within the 450-470MHz band there is very little scope to allow new technology to be introduced or to allow existing systems to expand. To address these issues it is necessary to bring the use of frequencies in this band into line with a common European plan. This will produce significant benefits. Primarily, the structure of the band will match that used on the continent leading to economies of scale in equipment. In addition, the spare capacity created will allow existing systems to develop and grow, it will be easier to introduce panEuropean digital technology and continental interference levels will be substantially reduced. The process of re-alignment is scheduled to begin in 2005 and will take place in a rolling programme perhaps lasting several years. The re-alignment of frequencies may require equipment to be adjusted or replaced. It would be advantageous for you to install equipment which is capable of being modified in order that the outstation transmit frequency is 10MHz below the base transmit (scanner). Licensees will be responsible for arranging the replacement or re-tuning of their own equipment. Your current service provider should be able to provide the expertise necessary for this task. The Radiocommunications Agency will notify all licensees of their new frequency or frequencies and the date upon which this change will be implemented. The intention will be to give at least six months notice of the date when the change has to be implemented. More information on the band re-alignment project can be found on the Agency website at: www.radio.gov.uk/topics/spectrum-strat/450-470realign/index.htm If you have a licensing enquiry please telephone 020 7211 0211.
