Write a personal statement of 250 words: introduce yourself and explain how you meet the scholarship criteria.
Select a paper from an English class to submit.
Update your resume.
Combine these four documents into one file (with page breaks in between). Name it Lastname_scholarship_YEAR

Criteria for all scholarships
All scholarships are for English majors; if you are a double major, English must be your primary major. The
minimum GPA for consideration is 3.0 in the major and overall. Applicants may be considered for multiple
scholarships, but no person will be awarded more than one.

Course paper or project
Please include your best paper from an English class of at least 6 pages but no more than 15.
Summary of community involvement, leadership
Please summarize instances of such activities in your life.
Notification of awards and note of appreciation to the donor
If you are selected for a scholarship, the chair of the Department of English will notify you and provide you
with information about the donor’s interests in helping students. Before scholarship funds will be deposited into
your account, you will need to submit two copies of a letter in which you introduce yourself to the donor and
express your appreciation for the scholarship. The deadline for the letters is April 15.
Payment of scholarships
Scholarships are paid to the Office of Financial Aid, where they are applied to your tuition or other university
expenses. If there is a remainder, the Office of Financial Aid will issue a check to the scholarship winner.
