Please use the attached form to submit a Letter of Recommendation from an instructor or other
education professional who has knowledge of your scholastic achievements and academic potential. You
may include additional letters if you wish, up to three; photocopy or print more forms for additional

4. Personal Statement
Please attach a brief personal statement detailing your reasons for applying to the Honors program,
your previous educational experiences, your current and potential goals, and other information of
interest that you feel is connected to your desire to join Urbana University’s Honors program.
Statements should be 500-750 typed words.
Your Personal Statement is a major factor used to evaluate your application file; it is an opportunity for
our Honors faculty to get to know you through more than just numbers and transcripts. The information
you provide will allow us deeper insight into your intellectual curiosity, writing and expressive skills, and
readiness and fit for the Honors program. The Personal Statement gives you a chance to tell us about
yourself, who you are, and what the Honors program can do for you.
5. Interview and Writing Sample
As part of the admissions process, students will be invited to campus for an interview with Honors
faculty. Urbana University’s Admissions staff will set up this appointment with the applicants for one of
our Visitation Days. During the campus visit we will also ask for Honors program applicants to write a
short essay over a prompt we provide to serve as a writing sample for your Honors application. More
details and a tentative itinerary will be provided by Admissions during the scheduling of campus visits.
6. Acknowledgements and Signature

correct and accurate to the best of the applicant’s knowledge. Attached written works are the original
work of the applicant, and any attached letter(s) of recommendation have been handled in such a way
as to maintain confidentiality if requested by the recommender. Failure in any of these respects is

The Urbana University Presidential Scholars Program recognizes and challenges students who
have the ability to excel at the highest level. Appointment as a Presidential Scholar is a highly
coveted honor and the most prestigious academic and service recognition at Urbana
University.
Mission:
Inspire, educate, and develop values based student leaders who are dedicated to academic
excellence, personal integrity, and selfless service to Urbana University.
Expectations for Sustained Excellence:





Maintain a cumulative grade point average ≥ 3.5
Participate in the Urbana University William G. Edwards Honors Program of study
Dedicate ≥ 20 hours per semester to the designated Scholars Project(s).
Perform Presidential Scholars Service as needed.
Maintain dedication to Urbana University by exhibiting exemplary behavior, high
energy, and a contagious positive attitude.
