CENTRAL MICHIGAN UNIVERSITY NEW STUDENT ACADEMIC ORIENTATION 2012 MENTOR FACT SHEET (Revised 10/07/11) Job Summary Orientation mentors help freshmen, transfer students, parents and supporting family members feel welcomed, understand the university environment and offer support during Academic Orientation. Student mentors work directly with new undergraduate students and visiting family members during a comprehensive orientation that covers academic expectations, advising, campus support services, safety, residency, diversity, health and financial matters. Mentors are part of a team of undergraduate students that includes faculty and professional academic advisors. Qualifications 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Mentor Applications Must be a currently enrolled CMU undergraduate student in good judicial and strong academic standing. Must achieve two full time semesters of college credit by May 2012. Willingness to work Monday evening through Thursday evening each week from May 21 – June 14, 2012. Willingness to complete 60-hour training from May 13 – May 18, 2012. Cannot take summer classes during the period listed above. Strongly discouraged from holding other weekday jobs – May 13 – June 14, 2012. Must be able to work and live on campus May 13 – June 14, 2012. A residence hall room and board package is provided on campus (weekend and evening meals are provided only when campus dining rooms are operational).
