THE HUMANITIES DEPARTMENT AT HARRIS The Humanities Department is committed to providing a wide view of the world – its diversity, problems and triumphs. The department compromises of History, Geography, Religious Studies, Sociology and Personal, Social, Health Education and Citizenship. The majority of lessons are taught by subject specialists in a suite of rooms, including an I.T. suite, which are housed in a separate building. There are subject leaders for History, Geography, Sociology and PSHEE and an overall Curriculum Leader for Humanities, who is also Head of RS. The department is also supported by the Deputy Head and an Assistant Head, who both teach in the department. At present all KS3 groups are taught in ability sets, whilst option groups are mixed ability. The department is supported in its work by experienced teaching assistants, who not only support in lessons, but contribute to planning, resource differentiation and curriculum development. The successful applicant will be part of a committed team who value their professional development and are flexible in their approach to working. The school follows a two week timetable. In Key Stage 3, all students are taught History and Geography for up to three hours a fortnight, PSHEE is taught twice a fortnight and RS is taught three times a fortnight in Key Stage 3 and 4. Some Year 9 students sit the first part of their GCSE at the end of Year 9. Humanities is a successful and popular department.
