A Sampling of Outdoor Odyssey’s Capabilities:

Team Building tied to the specific mission of the organization. Life is not an individual
sport but a team event. Organizations that champion the team are generally the same
organizations that create champions in their respective fields. Armed with the specific mission
of the organization and the focus of the respective teams that make up the organization,
Outdoor Odyssey can set forth the conditions that foster interpersonal communications through
exciting hands-on activities that inspire trust and a bona fide team spirit. People automatically
learn things about one another through interactive adventure that they previously were not
aware of, although they may have “worked together” for years. In short, activities are
designed to develop a collective sense of purpose for the greater good of the organization and
its mission.

Leadership Development reinforced by high adventure facilities and interpersonal
initiatives. Organizational leadership development and team building are inextricably linked,
with leadership development generally approached through use of a more extensive regimen
that might entail a series of developmental sessions. Outdoor Odyssey has designed and
presented leadership academy sessions for a wide variety of organizations to include many
educational institutions throughout the entire United States. Outdoor Odyssey’s history of
leadership development with young, aspiring leaders has been integrated within a number of
school districts within western Pennsylvania and has resulted in the yearlong mentoring of
literally thousands of youth in need in western PA. Of note, Outdoor Odyssey provides
leadership development to many young Americans who have served their country in the armed
services—many of these individuals have been grievously wounded; moreover, through the
development of a leadership program targeted toward dependents of military personnel,
Outdoor Odyssey has created mentoring relationships for children of wounded warriors and
members of the PA National Guard.

Leadership 101: Brilliance in the basics—ESSENTIAL fundamentals for every
individual and ALL organizations. Don’t be misled; this is NOT leadership for beginners
but rather a short and powerful “gut check” for individuals and leaders of any-size group to
ensure that they have refined the “blocking and tackling” of leadership that is essential for
TRUE success. T.S. Jones has crafted a presentation that can be delivered ANYWHERE,
focusing entirely on his particular selection of the 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 most important words for
ANY leader. There’s FAR TOO many seminars, etc. that embrace complex ideas of leadership
development without ANY having connection to the basics that truly sets the conditions for
success—the basics are the personal leadership skills that emanate from values associated with
serving others.

Facilitation of wide range of high adventure activities, leveraging indoor and outdoor
facilities. Outdoor Odyssey has been blessed with the development of both indoor and outdoor
facilities that simply have few rivals. Groups can elect to hold organizational events that
leverage these facilities and create an exciting outing. We strongly encourage organizations to
work with us to align their organizational mission with use of our facilities; however, there
exists a whole lot of value in simply creating a time of fun and stress release through high
adventure activities. Without question, regardless of basic intent, any group or organization
that approaches high adventure at Outdoor Odyssey will reap dividends relative to teamwork
and communication development among its personnel.

Personal Assessment and Goal Setting. Only a VERY small percentage of people are skilled
in setting and achieving goals, regardless of intellect and/or education; consequently, the vast
majority of people FALL SHORT of their potential, while many fail due to the absence of these
skills. Fortunately, the skills can be developed through an extremely practical and straight
forward understanding of the complementary nature of the mental, emotional, physical and
spiritual aspects of everyone’s makeup. Individuals can develop a hands-on approach to the
daily assessment of those aspects that lead to the development and fulfillment of goals and
objectives.

Life-long Planning Tool usable in any market or within any group. T.S. Jones has taken a
tool used personally in the Marine Corps for decades and restructured it for general
application for any/all individuals and groups. While it was originally crafted by the military
for the planning and execution of complex missions, it is, without question, foolproof in
focusing with laser-like intensity on a daily, weeklong and/or lifelong mission, while providing
an easy-to-use framework to identify obstacles, craft definitive tasks to be accomplished by
timeline and ensure that ALL resourcing demands are identified and embraced. Albeit this was
created by the military, its application is universal and has been adopted by literally thousands
from high school students to industry professionals with VERY successful results. It strongly
and quite decidedly reinforces the aspects of team building, camaraderie and leadership
development outlined above. Every high adventure activity at Outdoor Odyssey can be closely
integrated to reinforce the development of the skills associated with this tool.

Complex organizational planning. Certain organizations and/or groups at times will need to
undertake rather complex organizational planning in an effort to ensure that the stated mission
and vision of the outfit has remained relevant and in sync with the various changes to either the
environment, market place or outside elements that influence the performance of the
organization. Once again, leveraging his extensive military experience, T.S. Jones has
retooled a model that can easily and quite effectively be utilized by any organization,
championing the development of a variety of alternative courses of action, evaluated
extensively via the completion of estimates of supportability.

Mentoring for individual or organizational investment. Mentoring is an over-used term,
while the vast majority of mentoring programs have had but limited success—many failing
miserably. The essential ingredient for success is without question an aggressive mechanism
for follow-up protocols after the necessary bond, built on well-defined objectives, has been
established. Outdoor Odyssey was founded to provide a structured program with follow-up
procedures to address the needs of youth who were at risk of failing in school. Now in its 17th
season, Outdoor Odyssey has refined its mentoring protocols to enlist a web of support,
appreciably increasing opportunities for success; these same protocols can be insinuated
within organizations without becoming onerous. Approached properly, mentoring builds
teamwork, while enhancing leadership development throughout the organization.

Personal and professional mission development: enhance organizational development.
While personal and professional mission development rank as key components of a mentoring
program, they, likewise, can be very effective incorporated independent of a mentoring effort to
reinforce team building and leadership development within any organization. Personal issues
quite often impact professional performance and affect mission accomplishment; therefore,
organizations must effectively embrace the inextricable link between personal and professional
growth.

Power of commitments and tools to ensure growth within the organization. In companion
with the development of personal and professional growth by individuals within any
organization, effective tools can be employed that exponentially increase the individual’s
likelihood of successfully meeting established goals/objectives. The practice of honoring
commitments is critical to organizations and society writ large, with FAR TOO many negative
examples to the contrary. Tools employed embrace the power of accountability, while
strengthening key elements of leadership development.

Advanced Leadership Course. T.S. Jones and the staff of Outdoor Odyssey have crafted a
comprehensive leadership course that incorporates key components of capabilities outlines
above. Jones’ extensive military experience has been leveraged; however, this is definitely and
quite decidedly a course for those in the civilian sector. The course, specifically shaped to the
experience level of the participants and the goals/objectives of the organization and/or
institution, can be conducted over several consecutive days or through a series of daylong
sessions over an extended period of time. Optimally, the course would be conducted on
consecutive days, increasing the effectiveness of practical application assignments. This is an
exciting and dynamic course, laced with the inclusion of high adventure activities suited to the
specific capabilities and needs of the audience. The salient themes of the course orient on self
assessments relative to the key aspects of one’s life (mental, emotional, physical and spiritual),
leadership skills and the ability to set and realize goals, both personal and professional, that
meet organizational objectives while bettering society. Please view testimonials regarding the
power of the course.

Mental Fitness: harnessing the central nervous system to control stress and build
resilience – practical, workable lessons from a MARINE GRUNT not a GURU. Stress
affects everyone and is currently linked to the six leading causes of death in America: heart
disease; cancer; ling ailments; accidents; cirrhosis of liver; suicide. Doubtless, negative
aspects of stress have a most deleterious effect on the performance of all organizations.
Outdoor Odyssey has thus far conducted 45 weeklong advanced leadership seminars for
warriors, wounded in either Iraq or Afghanistan; many of these individuals struggle mightily
with severe issues associated with stress. As a result of these experiences, T.S. Jones
conducted a lengthy four-year study of operational stress for the Office of the Secretary of
Defense (OSD). One of the key lessons learned through this extensive work was the almost
complete absence of knowledge regarding the central nervous system and how many forms of
stress could be reduced is not eliminated completely. Moreover, armed with knowledge of the
central nervous systems, individuals and teams can build resilience and mental awareness,
essential in many, if not most, competitive environments. Practical tools will be introduced to
include familiarization with mindfulness and the power of meditation. Rest assured, these are
practical skills presented by a Marine Infantry Officer (A GRUNT) – not esoteric pablum from
a guru; most important THEY WORK!!

The Cardinal Virtues Still Apply: building winners, regardless of the mission. The founder
of Outdoor Odyssey, T.S. Jones, has obviously leveraged his extensive military experiences to
shape many of the salient lessons of Outdoor Odyssey and provide the focus of leadership
development and team building. However, he has worked assiduously to ensure that every
element of Outdoor Odyssey is reflective of the Cardinal Virtues of Prudence, Justice,
Fortitude and Temperance that truly set the foundation for those lessons that he garnered from
his experiences as a Marine. Moreover, while Jones is an avid subscriber to the 1st Amendment
and one’s right to practice any religion, he does not hide the fact that he draws his strength,
and attributes his success to his Christian beliefs; therefore, while working hard to attract
involvement by those of any religion, he also aggressively incorporates the three Christian
virtues of faith, hope and charity into the day-to-day activities of Outdoor Odyssey. The four
Cardinal Virtues and the three Christian virtues, making up the Seven Heavenly Virtues,
provide an outstanding guide to live by and by which to operate any organization, regardless of
whether of religious affiliation.

Warrior Ethos from a Marine: develop a winning ethos, while inspiring responsibility in
others. Please review Leadership Blog #2 that outlines Warrior Ethos and how it can be
incorporated in any organization to build winning teams that accomplish key missions while
playing an active and responsible role in enhancing community development. Individuals and
groups can definitely succeed by inspiring an ethos sets the conditions for success, inspiring
others to seek out involvement an active role in the organization and its surrounding
community.

Facilitation of conferences and off sites: reinforced by capabilities outlined above!
