POSITION DESCRIPTION
Student leaders play a significant role in facilitating the successful transition of new students to the K-State
campus. The orientation and enrollment programs are comprehensive and structured programs recognizing
the academic and personal needs of new students entering K-State and their families.
MISSION
The mission of New Student Services is to provide for continuing services and assistance that will:
 Aid new students in their transition to K-State
 Expose new students to the broad range of educational opportunities offered by K-State
 Integrate new students into the life of K-State
ROLE DESCRIPTION
The minimum expectations/responsibilities of Orientation Leaders and Wildcat Warm-up Counselors include:
 Attend and actively participate in training and development programs
 Assist with the organization and implementation of programs for the summer of 2013
 Serve as role model and mentor for new students
 Acquaint new students and their families with campus services, activities, and facilities
 Encourage students to fully participate in the university environment
 Assist with the enrollment process
 Lead campus tours
 Participate in the evaluation process of the orientation programs
 Additional responsibilities as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
The minimum qualifications for Orientation Leaders and Wildcat Warm-up Counselors are:
 Good academic (minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA) and disciplinary standing
 Understand and believe in the purpose of the orientation and enrollment programs
 Relate well with students, parents, faculty, and administration
 Exhibit responsibility, positive attitude, confidence, flexibility, team orientation, high energy level, and
strong communication skills
 Demonstrate a desire to learn about Kansas State University, its regulations, people, programs, and
community
 Available for approximately 20 hours of training in March and April, plus work activities prior to the
programs and during the scheduled program
Please note, if hired, attendance is mandatory at all training sessions.
BENEFITS
The benefits of the Orientation Leader and Wildcat Warm-up Counselor experiences include:
 The opportunity to gain significant leadership experience and professional development
 The opportunity to serve as a role model while assisting in the transition and retention of new students
 The opportunity to work with faculty and staff across campus
 Wildcat Warm-up staff: two nights housing in residence halls during each program
 An hourly pay rate of $7.25, staff shirts, and some meals

Tuesday session, but all applicants must attend one
session and be able to stay for the entire time.
During the selection workshop, you will be involved
in several activities that will help us get to know
your strengths and personality. Dress is your
favorite K-State t-shirt.
