Grade Point Average: GPA
Each student’s grade point average, GPA, is figured at the end of each semester, not at the end
of the six weeks or just at the end of the year. The GPA accounts for all semester grades
received during 9th grade through 12th grade.
GPA is calculated by dividing the sum of the quality points by the total number courses
attempted each semester. GPA is calculated on a 4-point scale.
A = 93-100
B = 85-92
C = 75-84
D = 70-74
F = Below 70

GPA Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I take easy classes in high school so my GPA will be high?
A: No! Taking easy classes in high school might get you a higher GPA but you won’t be
prepared for college. Take all the Math, Science and English classes you can get!
Q: How easy is it to raise my GPA?
A: It depends. The more As you make, the higher your GPA will be. However, it’s important to
remember that the larger the denominator (the more semester grades a student has), the more
difficult it is to move the GPA in great numbers.
Q: Is my GPA weighted?
A: No. LaVergne High School gives extra points on six weeks grades for advanced honors and
AP classes but not on the semester averages.
Q: Where can I find a GPA calculator?
A: www.lhs.rcs.k12.tn.us/teachers/guidance/guidance.htm
