Mr. Hubler is so much cooler than most students know. First, before Mr. Hubler became a
teacher he was a star basketball player. Although several top universities recruited him with promises of
scholarships and sports cars, Mr. Hubler chose to attend Pacific Lutheran University because of their
strong academics. PLU is located in Portland, Oregon. Later, when Mr. Hubler was ready to graduate,
the Portland Trailblazers asked him to come and play for them, but Mr. Hubler refused, saying he wanted
to be a science teacher, and work with kids instead. Next, Mr. Hubler was famous in Norway during the
1990s. When he was 15, he started a boy band called “Hubbie’s Hood”. The group didn’t do well in the
U.S., but they became an huge pop sensation in Norway. His hits “Vernebriller” and
“Celledeler” were in Norway’s top ten countdown. Other famous Norwegian bands are
Ylvis and A-ha. Finally, Mr. Hubler makes a positive difference at LSMS. He helps the
other teachers to use technology in the classroom and to solve problems they may have
using technology. Additionally, He is the teacher who was finally able to get doors for
all the science classrooms. Until fall of 2014, four of the science rooms didn’t have doors. That summer
Mr. Hubler was in his classroom when he heard a commotion in the main hallway. The custodians were
trying to contain a stampeding swarm of wild slugs by slamming all the classroom doors shut. Mr.
Hubler knew if the slugs got into the science hallway they would eat all the new plant specimens he had
just collected from the Quinault Rain Forest because there was no door to keep them out. Quickly he
grabbed a box of salt from the science closet, ran into the main hallway and began stomping slugs and
scattering salt. He was able to stop most of the swarm, although a few did get into Mr. Rosato’s room.
After that the district listened respectfully to Mr. Hubler’s request and installed doors on all the
classrooms.
