Scholarship Information







GENERAL INFORMATION PERTAINING TO ALL SCHOLARSHIPS
Student must be a current senior attending school at a Lansing School District High School.
Student must be a graduating senior.
Student must provide a high school transcript, personal statement, career goals, an acceptance letter from an
accredited community/2-year/4-year college/university
Provide a list of extra curricular activities and pertinent background and financial information.
Provide at least two letters of recommendation
Student must fill out the LEAF Scholarship application and submit all materials by the printed due date.
Submissions will be considered for all appropriate/qualified scholarships using a rubric scoring grid
John Aldinger 4 Year Educational Scholarship
 $1,000.00 per year will be awarded for 4 years for a total of $4,000.00
 Money will cover tuition, books and lab fees only
 Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
Dr. E. Sharon Banks Educator Scholarship
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00
 Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
 Money can be used to cover tuition and textbooks
Dr. Eva Evans Performing Arts Scholarship
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00
 Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
 Only students studying visual or performing arts may apply
Clayton Kowalk Athletic/Coaching Scholarship
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00
 Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0
 Student must have an interest in pursuing a degree in the field of physical education, coaching, athletics, athletic
training or teaching.
 Money can cover tuition, books and lab fees only
Dr. Laurence MacQueen Educator Scholarship:
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00
 Personal Statement must include an answer to the following question:

“What characteristics/experiences do I have that will allow me to influence others in a positive manner?”
J. Mark Mehaffey Visual and Performing Arts Scholarship
 Student must show potential for leadership and have a grade point average of at least 2.0
 Student must be enrolled as a full-time student at Lansing Community College pursuing any career or program.
 Higher consideration will be given to a student who is enrolled in an art class.
 The scholarship may be used for art supplies, tuition for visual arts classes, materials or lab fees.
Dr. W. E. Maldonado/Sparrow Scholarship
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00
 Priority will be given to students who are enrolled in a health related career path
 Money can be used to cover tuition, books and lab fees only
Cecil Nickel Scholarship
 Students will be awarded up to $2,500.00
 Student must be enrolled at Sexton High School
South Lansing Kiwanis Scholarship:
 Student will be awarded $1,000.00 for one year.
 Money can be used to cover tuition, books and lab fees only.
Joan Weaver Visual Arts Scholarship
 Student will be awarded $500.00 for one year.
 Money can be used to cover tuition, books and lab fees only.
 Only students pursuing a visual arts curriculum will be considered.
Maria R. Velasquez Scholarship:
 Student will be awarded $500.00 for one year.
 Student must have a minimum of 2.5 GPA
 Money can be used to cover tuition and/or books
 Preference given to student from migrant family background or to be the first in their family to attend college.
 Student must present an essay on their community involvement and how achieving a college degree will assist
them in their future endeavors.
Dr. Richard Halik Community College Scholarship
 Student will be selected by their building principal
 Students will be selected from each high school on a rotation basis
 Student must have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and accepted at a community college
 Student will be awarded $500 to use for tuition, books, lab fees or supplies

Carnegie/Zamora Scholarship: ARAMARK Education has partnered with LEAF to offer this scholarship for
Chicano/Latino Students.
 Only Chicano/Latino students are eligible to apply.
 If applying for this scholarship, please note your race on the application next to your name.
 Student will be awarded $500
 Students must submit a short narrative about the importance of continued education beyond high school and why
it is important to the Latino community
Culinary Arts/Nutrition Scholarship: ARAMARK Education has partnered with LEAF to offer this scholarship for
Culinary Arts and Nutrition Majors.
 Student will be awarded $2000
 Only students studying culinary arts or nutrition may apply
 Money can be used to cover, tuition, books, transportation, and lab fees
