VRES Guidelines for students
Eligibility




You must be in your second, third or fourth year of Undergraduate studies (Masters are not
eligible)
You must have a GPA of 5.5 or above
You cannot have received a VRES scholarship previously
Be available over the summer break for the following dates;
17/11/14-12/12/14 and 5/1/15-23/1/15
Be available to attend both the orientation session and poster presentation session
Application
Please complete the VRES Student Application form and return to the CI HDR Team by the
COB 22nd September 2014 (ci.hdr@qut.edu.au).
You application should include;



A supporting statement (maximum one page) detailing your research interests and why you
would like to participate in the program.
The top three research projects you are interested in.
Two academic references – these can be just emails of support from lecturers or tutors.
Selection
Applicants will be notified of the outcome by Friday 3rd of October.
Timeline




Orientation – Wednesday 15th October 2014
Session 1 (4 weeks) – 17/11/14-12/12/14
Christmas break – 13/12/14 – 4/1/15
Session 2 (4 weeks) – 5/1/15-23/1/15
Poster Presentation – week beginning 2nd February 2015
Participants are expected to work 10-15 hours per week during contact time, however if needed
alternative times can be negotiated with your supervisor provided you are finished before the Poster
Presentation in February.
A tax free stipend is paid to successful participants in two payments. The stipend rate will be
confirmed at Orientation, but will be between $155 - $250 per week.
As a conclusion to the program all participants are required to submit and present to a poster
detailing the research they have been involved in.
