New Scholarship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students in Science and Technology King Abdullah University of Science and Technology KAUST Discovery Scholarship Program Application Deadline: 16 January 2009 KAUST Discovery Scholarships will be granted to a select cohort of undergraduate students who demonstrate academic excellence in the global research community. The KAUST Discovery Scholarships will support students who wish to pursue research-based graduate study at KAUST at the conclusion of their undergraduate programs. Fields of Study: Chemical and Biological Engineering Mechanical Engineering Environmental Science and Engineering Materials Science and Engineering Applied Mathematics and Computational Sciences Electrical Engineering Bioscience Chemical Science Marine Science and Engineering Earth Science and Engineering Computer Science Discovery Scholarship Student Benefits: For the remainder of first university degree studies, students will receive: o Full tuition to complete degree at current institution o A monthly living stipend o An allowance to purchase textbooks and a laptop o All travel costs associated with participation in KAUST-sponsored student development activities o Access to KAUST academic advising and online community Upon the completion of the first university degree grogram, students will receive: o Admittance into a master’s degree program at the KAUST campus in Saudi Arabia o Full scholarship at KAUST, including tuition, healthcare, housing and travel costs o A $30,000 stipend o One roundtrip airfare to home country New Scholarship Opportunity for Undergraduate Students in Science and Technology King Abdullah University of Science and Technology KAUST Discovery Scholarship Program Application Deadline: 16 January 2009 Eligibility: Applicants must demonstrate proven leadership in research and academic involvement. A minimum of the following academic standards: • • • • • • • Be currently enrolled in bachelor’s degree program in relevant field of study Official bachelor's university transcript Minimum overall GPA of 3.3 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent in other international grading systems Must submit a minimum TOEFL score of 79 on the IBT (Internet Based Test) or 6.0 on the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) upon award offer (if necessary) Official bachelor’s university transcript (must be in English to be accepted). Demonstrate academic and research interest and/or leadership potential Willingness to matriculate at KAUST in Saudi Arabia in 2009, 2010 or 2011 Ability to travel outside his/her home country to attend KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities Application: The online application form is found on the KAUST website: www.kaust.edu.sa Scholarship Requirements: Maintain good academic standing in current institution Agreement to matriculate at KAUST following graduation from undergraduate institution Participation in KAUST-sponsored enrichment activities that include an award ceremony, workshop in home region and conference in Saudi Arabia Obtaining necessary documents for travel outside of the scholar’s home country (KAUST will assist with travel documents for entrance into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia)
