25 September 2014 Template for Bachelor Programme Regulations and Curricula About this template: Our aim is to establish a general structure for all regulations and curricula at Aalborg University. This means that no regulations and curricula (in the following referred to as curriculum) should differ significantly from this template. However, a certain degree of flexibility applies, enabling individual adjustments which might be expedient. As a general rule, paragraphs written out in full and in a black font in this template must be used as stated here. Red text represents guidelines for the preparation of the curriculum. Blue text represents examples of specific text in some of the University’s curricula and exemplifies options for actual study programmes. The blue texts may therefore be rephrased or left out, or additions may have to be made. Green text is directly quoted from the qualifications framework. Curriculum phrasing must be made discipline specific. (A standard competence profile has been included in the template. In addition, a description including further specification of actual competences must be included. The qualifications framework for these descriptions has been included and must be specified to match the study programme in question). For this reason, students must be conversant in English language in order to complete the education. Section 8 Examination regulations In the assessment of examinations, grades from the 7-point grading scale or a pass/fail grade will be awarded. Subsection 2 Examinations will be either internal or external. If no other regulations are stated, examinations will be assessed by the examiner and a second internal or external examiner. Subsection 3 If no other regulations are stated, examinations will be conducted in Danish/xxx/xxx. This applies to both written and oral examinations. Subsection 4 Projects, area studies etc. may be prepared in groups of maximum six students. Bachelor projects may be prepared in groups of maximum X students. Project examinations will normally take the following shape: A project examination based on the students’ written work, whether prepared individually or in cooperation with others. Students who have prepared a project report jointly will attend the examination as a group. The group will be jointly responsible for the project report or other written work undertaken jointly. The project report constitutes the basis for the examination and assessment, and an overall assessment of the master thesis and the oral performance will be made. At oral group examinations, the examination must be conducted in such a way that individual assessment of each individual student’s performance is ensured; cf. the Examination Order (Order No. 670 of 19 June 2014, section 4, subsection 2). Each student may request to receive their assessment in private. Students should inform the examiner of their request when the examination begins. Subsection 5 Where rules have been stipulated regarding the volume of written work, one page will correspond to 2400 characters, including spaces. Subsection 6 The stipulated time intervals for oral examinations will include voting and announcement of result. 6 Subsection 7 In the assessment of all written work, irrespective of the language in which this was written, the students’ spelling skills and fluency will be considered. The assessment of linguistic performance will be based on orthographic correctness, academic writing standards and stylistic proficiency. The linguistic performance will always be assessed as an independent dimension in the overall assessment. However, no examination will be awarded an overall pass grade solely on the basis of good linguistic performance, nor will an examination usually be awarded a fail grade solely on the basis of very poor linguistic performance. (For language studies, the following should be added: However, an examination using XX as examination language can be assessed to fail solely on the basis of very poor linguistic performance). In special circumstances (e.g. students’ dyslexia and language other than Danish as their mother tongue), the study board may grant an exemption. Subsection 8 In the evaluation of the examination performance, the grade 12 will be awarded to students who demonstrate exhaustive fulfilment of the objectives for the module, with no or only few insignificant omissions. Subsection 9 In case of re-examination, the provisions stipulated in the general examination regulations at the Faculty of Humanities, Aalborg University, will apply. Subsection 10 Before the end of the second semester, students must participate in the obligatory examinations in the first and second semesters in order to be able to continue their studies in the programme. Such examinations must be passed by the end of the fourth semester in order for students to continue their studies in the programme. In order for students to commence studies of elective or minor subjects, they must have successfully completed their two first years of studies of their major subject. Subsection 11 The study elements on which the individual examinations are based are rated as proportions of an annual full-time equivalent, this being calculated as the annual workload of a full-time student, including holidays. An annual full-time equivalent is 60 ECTS. Subsection 12 In order for a student to graduate from the programme, each examination must be passed with a minimum grade of 02 or a ‘pass’ grade. A weighted average will be calculated for the examinations assessed according to the 7-point scale, on the basis of the ECTS weight of each individual examination. So the average is defined as the sum of individual grades, each multiplied by the ECTS credits of the examination in question, divided by the sum of the ECTS credits of the examinations included in the average. Examinations assessed as pass/fail will not be included in this calculation. The average grade with one decimal digit will appear on the examination certificate. Subsection 13 Examination regulations stipulated in the curriculum will always be subordinate to the general examination regulations in force at the time in question at the Faculty of Humanities, AAU (link). 7 PART 3 PROGRAMME STRUCTURE, CONTENT AND EXAMINATIONS Section 9 Programme structure (This section must contain a description of the structure of the programme as well as teaching methods, followed by a description of the actual modules. Teaching methods must be specified in the individual modules. A module is a subject element or a group of subject elements whose purpose is to provide the student with an entity of academic qualifications within a stipulated time frame stated in ECTS credits, and which is completed by one or a number of examinations according to a certain examination schedule stipulated and defined in this curriculum. (A survey of the distribution of ECTS credits across individual semesters or modules should be shown. See the example below. The survey may be expanded to show all relevant facts pertaining to the programme). For example, the survey may also be outlined so as to show educational methods and subjects offered, auxiliary subjects and elective subjects).
