Associate Director
PROFILE
The Kino Border Initiative, a dynamic, faith-based, non-profit located on the border of Nogales, AZ and
Nogales, Sonora, seeks an experienced, bi-lingual professional to work closely with the Executive
Director to manage internal operations including planning, finance, human resources, facilities and
general business administration and engage with external constituencies. The ideal candidate will
possess experience in a non-profit setting in these key areas, be fluent in English and Spanish, and be
fully committed to KBI’s mission and values.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Associate Director will be responsible for enhancing the
internal organization processes and infrastructure that will allow Kino Border Initiative to effectively
fulfill its mission, as well as engage externally with key constituencies.
The Director of Operations will manage the following functions:
A. Working with the Executive Director, manage and oversee all financial and business planning
activities, including:
 Direct and administer all financial plans
 Oversee business policies and accounting practices
 Review and analyze financial reports
 Support and advise the ED in decision making
 Lead and support organizational budgeting process
 Oversee reporting and monitoring of organizational performance metrics.
 Provide overall financial oversight and monitoring.
 Ensure that relevant financial data is presented to the ED and Board of Directors.
B. Manage and oversee the human resource function for Kino Border Initiative including:
 Recruitment, hiring, and compensation
 Benefits administration and oversight
 Professional training and development, including new employee orientation
 Retention strategies
 Regulatory oversight and legal compliance
 Ensuring that the human resource function is properly resourced and represented
D. Manage and oversee the facilities and property function for KBI including:
 Oversee risk management and legal activities: letters of agreement, contracts, leases, and other
legal documents and agreements
 Business insurance: procurement, monitoring and management
 Ensure the ongoing maintenance and updating of information systems and infrastructure,
including hardware and software.

E. Office management: oversee administrative functions for KBI U.S. and Mexican offices, ensuring
smooth daily operations of physical facilities and equipment.
 Provide direct supervision of Administrative Assistants
F. Board of directors: working with the ED to provide staff support and guidance to the KBI board and
act as staff liaison to relevant board committees, including finance and building committee.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
 Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree
 Bilingual, English and Spanish, required
 5+ years senior management in a socially responsible organization with progressive experience
leading to at least three years experience in operational/administrative management
 Demonstrated experience in financial planning and analysis with previous experience
overseeing human resources, information technology, and legal issues
 Skills should include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource
development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring
systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of
collaboration
 Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and commitment to the mission of the KBI
 Must possess valid passport that enables individual to move easily across the U.S./Mexico border
 Willingness to live and work in Nogales, AZ
 Fundraising experience a plus
